A leading design, engineering, and project management consultancy, employing over 50,000 professionals globally, is seeking a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join its Building Design Practice. This is more than just a job opportunity-it's a chance to make a meaningful impact and help shape a sustainable future for generations to come.The successful candidate will be based in the newly established central Manchester office, joining a national Building Services team that collaborates across the UK and internationally via a Global Technology Centre. Role OverviewThe position involves working within a national practice of Building Design professionals, delivering engineering design solutions across a variety of sectors. While multi-sector experience is advantageous, particular expertise in Commercial, Defence, Energy, Education, and Healthcare projects would be beneficial. Recent projects include: • Manchester Digital Campus for the Government Property Agency, • Seashell SEND College in Cheadle, • Submarine manufacturing facilities for BAE Systems, • Design and specify Electrical Building Services systems from concept to detailed design, including power, earthing, lighting, safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection., • Produce detailed calculations using industry-standard software such as Excel, Amtech, and Dialux/Relux., • Prepare technical specifications, design reports, and presentations., • Collaborate with the BIM team to develop models and drawings, with working knowledge of Revit., • Represent the consultancy at client and stakeholder meetings., • Conduct condition surveys, inspections, and oversee installation and commissioning., • Manage personal workload and ensure projects are delivered to high standards within agreed deadlines and budgets., • Demonstrable experience in Building Services Engineering with a passion for design excellence., • A natural curiosity and interest in innovative working methods., • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline., • Working towards Chartered Membership of IET, CIBSE, or an equivalent professional body., • Proficient in software such as Amtech/Prodesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of high-voltage design tools is advantageous., • Strong understanding of UK technical standards and codes of practice., • Familiarity with energy reduction strategies and approaches to decarbonisation., • Experience in energy and carbon data capture and analytics. Security ClearanceSome roles may require security clearance. Offers of employment will be subject to obtaining the appropriate level of clearance, which will be discussed during the interview process. The vetting process is conducted by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of UK residency for five years or more.
