Family Support Worker (Attendance & Pastoral) | Fantastic Secondary School | Westminster EdEx are working with a fantastic Secondary School in the Borough of Westminster! They are looking for a Family Support Worker (Attendance & Pastoral) who will be instrumental in the schools focusing on raising the attendance across all year groups. This is a full time, term-time only position with the option of either taking you on directly or via timesheets initially. Please note - You shall be required to drive a minibus and pick students up from their homes. This Family Support Worker (Attendance & Pastoral) will have an abundance of responsibilities, and it will require someone who is calm & collected, but also able to influence them when needed. The Head Teacher is super compassionate and will always go the extra mile for her pupils & staff. This has been critical in their success as a School over the past 3-4 years. The areas of focus are the following: Family Partnership • Build strong, trusting relationships with families to enhance student participation and school connection., • Carry out home visits to better understand family situations and provide personalised guidance or intervention., • Act as a bridge between school and home, ensuring parents/carers are regularly updated and actively engaged in their child's learning journey. Attendance Development • Proactively identify students with concerning attendance patterns and collaborate with families to establish clear, practical improvement strategies., • Track and analyse attendance trends to assess the success of support measures and adjust approaches accordingly., • Keep staff and families informed with timely updates on attendance progress and agreed action plans., • Partner with primary schools and transition teams to ensure a seamless Year 7 start for new pupils., • Coordinate tailored support for students preparing for key academic transitions, such as GCSEs and A-Levels. Integrated Support Services • Evaluate the individual needs of students and their families to connect them with the right internal and external support services., • Signpost or refer families to specialist agencies offering emotional, medical, or financial assistance as needed., • Liaise with professionals from across sectors - including health and social care - to deliver holistic, joined-up support. Crisis Response • Offer timely, responsive support to students and families facing urgent challenges that may disrupt education or wellbeing., • Work collaboratively with school teams and external partners to implement effective crisis intervention plans., • Record safeguarding concerns using CPOMs and maintain close communication with the school's safeguarding leads. Home Learning & Family Education Support • Help parents/carers foster an environment at home that encourages attendance, learning and homework engagement., • Raise parental awareness of the value of consistent education and their role in promoting positive outcomes., • Coordinate informative workshops and sessions covering topics such as parenting strategies, health, and education., • Share resources and guidance with parents to help them support their child's progress, including signposting to online tools. Advocacy & Inclusion • Represent the voice and needs of students and families within the school environment, ensuring they are heard and supported., • Collaborate with school staff to shape inclusive policies and a welcoming atmosphere for all families. Documentation & Reporting • Keep detailed and confidential records of family engagement, support actions, and student progress., • Log interventions and outcomes in line with safeguarding and data protection protocols., • Produce reports and summaries of family support activity for school leadership and relevant external partners.
