Job Description This Is Not a General Woodworker Role Maple Walnut Woodworks, Inc. is a high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork company serving residential and select commercial clients throughout Western New York. We are seeking a Senior Cabinet Maker / Millwork Machinist with deep, hands-on experience operating industrial woodworking machinery, including shapers. If your background is primarily hobbyist woodworking, hand-tool–only work, CNC-only operation, or assembly, this position is not a fit. Position Summary This is a full-time, W-2, in-house position responsible for machining, fabricating, and assembling custom cabinetry and millwork components to finish-grade standards. The role requires independent machine setup, sound judgment, and strict adherence to safety and quality protocols. You will be expected to set up and run machines—not just feed parts. Core Responsibilities Machining & Fabrication • Machine solid wood and sheet goods for custom cabinetry and architectural millwork, • Independently set up and operate:, • Shaper (tooling selection, fence setup, feeders), • Table saw, • Jointer, • Planer, • Mortiser / drill press, • Produce profiles, cope-and-stick joinery, edge treatments, and custom components, • Supervise cabinet assembly team, • When necessary assemble cabinet boxes, doors, drawers, and millwork components, • Maintain consistent dimensions, joinery accuracy, and finish-ready surfaces, • Identify machining or material issues before downstream processes, • Follow all safety procedures for industrial machinery, • Maintain clean, organized, and efficient work areas, • Coordinate with finishing and installation teams to ensure proper sequencing Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable) • 8+ years professional experience as a cabinet maker or millwork machinist, • Fluent, independent operation of industrial woodworking machinery, • Proven shaper experience (setup, tooling, feeders—not just operation), • Strong understanding of wood movement, material behavior, and tolerances, • Ability to read and execute detailed shop drawings, • High attention to detail with a zero-defect mindset, • Reliable, disciplined, and safety-conscious work ethic Disqualifiers (Please Read Carefully) This role is not appropriate for candidates whose experience is primarily: • Hobbyist or small-shop woodworking, • CNC-only operation, • Assembly-only cabinet work, • Apprentice or learning roles Compensation & Benefits • Full-time, year-round W-2 employment, • Medical, dental, and vision insurance available, • Paid holidays and PTO, • Stable workload in a professional, quality-driven shop, • Long-term opportunity with a respected custom millwork firm Who Thrives Here You take pride in machining parts that assemble cleanly, finish beautifully, and install without correction.
