Job DescriptionCrater / Packaging Technician – Warehouse Location: Chesapeake, VA Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Type: Contract‑to‑Hire (6 months) Pay Range: $18–$22/hour (OT paid at 1.5x) Opportunity Overview We are partnering with a well‑established industrial packaging operation supporting high‑value commercial and government clients. This is a hands‑on role for someone who takes pride in precision work, consistency, and craftsmanship. If you enjoy building, problem‑solving, and working with your hands in a structured warehouse environment, this role offers stability, skill growth, and long‑term potential. This position is best suited for individuals who value reliability, quality, and steady advancement rather than rapid job changes or short‑term work. What You’ll Be Doing • Build custom wooden crates, skids, and pallets using lumber, plywood, and fastening hardware, • Package and protect high‑value and sensitive items using foam, vapor barriers, blocking, bracing, and shrink wrap, • Measure, inspect, and assess items to determine the safest and most effective packaging method, • Cut packing materials to specification and crimp protective bags when required, • Count, weigh, and stage shipments accurately for outbound delivery, • Safely operate hand and power tools (saws, drills, nail guns, tape measures), • Assist with loading and unloading freight within the warehouse, • Perform light computer work related to shipping and inventory tracking, • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety‑focused work environmentWhat We’re Looking For, • Experience in warehouse work, crating, packaging, carpentry, construction, or material handling preferred, • Ability to read measurements, follow instructions, and work from job specifications, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, • Comfortable with physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for the duration of the shift, • Dependable, punctual, and accountable, • Able to work independently within a small team environment, • Willingness to ask for additional work once tasks are completedWork Environment & Requirements, • Warehouse‑based, climate‑controlled environment, • Small team with a high level of personal responsibility, • Steel‑toe footwear required, • Dress code: jeans or appropriate work shorts, t‑shirt or collared shirt (no graphics, no overly baggy clothing)What’s in It for You, • Day‑shift schedule with minimal overtime, • Performance and attendance incentives, • Paid holidays, • Medical, dental, and vision options, • 401(k) eligibility, • PTO, sick time, and personal days upon conversion Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
