Position Summary: The Music Teacher brings fun, joy, and creativity to Oakwood Creative Cares Day Club by using the power of music to enrich the lives of older adults living with dementia, Parkinsons, stroke, and other cognitive or physical challenges. At Oakwood, we believe music is more than entertainmentits a bridge to connection, purpose, and self-expression. Through dynamic and engaging programs such as choirs, ukulele bands, drumming circles, rhythm groups, and songwriting workshops, the Music Teacher cultivates an environment where members can explore their creativity, express themselves, and connect deeply with others through shared musical experiences. As part of our interdisciplinary team, the Music Teacher designs and facilitates musical opportunities that promote members physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being. This role also contributes valuable insights to individualized care plans, helping ensure every members day is filled with creativity, meaning, and joy. Duties and Responsibilities: ENGAGE * • Design and lead dynamic music programs that reflect your unique talents and passionssuch as choirs, ukulele bands, drumming circles, rhythm groups, and songwriting sessions., • Inspire members to explore music as a form of self-expression, creativity, and connection., • Adapt and tailor musical experiences to accommodate varying cognitive and physical abilities, ensuring every member feels valued and successful., • Create a joyful, inclusive atmosphere where music fosters laughter, memory, and meaningful engagement., • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to contribute to individualized care plans and complete progress notes documenting members participation and progress. SUPPORT * • Welcome members with enthusiasm and warmth, providing encouragement and support throughout the day., • Assist members as they transition between activities, helping them remain comfortable, confident, and engaged., • Support daily routines, including helping with meal and snack preparation and service, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable day., • Offer respectful assistance with personal care needs, including restroom support, always maintaining dignity, privacy, and compassion., • Work collaboratively with team members to cultivate a positive, creative, and uplifting Day Club environment. Qualifications & Attributes • Talents, passions, or interests in music and performance,such as singing, playing instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, ukulele, percussion), songwriting, conducting small ensembles, or facilitating rhythm-based activities., • A genuine passion for using music to connect, uplift, and inspireolder adults living with dementia, Parkinsons, stroke, and other cognitive or physical challenges., • The ability to teach and engage othersin both group and individual settings, creating accessible and meaningful experiences for all participants., • A charismatic, interactive, and encouraging personality that brings joy and positive energy to every session., • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster trust, connection, and collaboration among members and teammates., • Excellent organizational and self-management skills to prepare and lead engaging classes while maintaining flexibility and creativity., • Demonstrated planning, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities to respond to the unique needs and rhythms of each day., • A team player who values compassion, creativity, and community., • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional music education, certification, or experience in music therapy or teaching is a plus., • Must have current DPS clearanceand successfully pass a background check
