Job DescriptionJob Title: Safety Manager Job Description The Safety Manager oversees all site-wide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role develops and maintains key safety and environmental plans, leads hazardous waste management activities, and conducts regular inspections and audits across multiple operational areas. The Safety Manager serves as the primary point of contact for safety and environmental compliance, leads incident investigations, manages safety training and certifications, and supervises assigned personnel to support a large, complex facilities operations environment. Responsibilities • Manage comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs across the site in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations., • Develop, implement, and maintain the Safety Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safety training programs., • Oversee hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with 40 CFR 265.16 and other applicable EPA standards., • Conduct routine facility safety inspections, environmental audits, and risk assessments across all operational areas, including maintenance, custodial, grounds, and warehouse functions., • Coordinate, schedule, and track staff safety certifications, including OSHA 30-hour outreach training, confined space entry, fall protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), and spill response procedures., • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety and environmental compliance during audits, incidents, regulatory reviews, and other critical events, and remain available by phone 24/7 as required., • Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions., • Maintain and update MSDS/SDS libraries, waste manifests, inspection records, and other compliance documentation., • Plan and deliver regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and emergency preparedness drills for staff and subcontractors., • Maintain accurate records of staff schedules, inspection reports, and safety-related supply usage., • Ensure accurate and timely timekeeping, including entry of labor hours in timecard and Costpoint systems in compliance with company and contract requirements., • Monitor and manage employee timekeeping to validate and approve labor hours and support accurate reporting and invoicing., • Supervise and manage assigned personnel, including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating onboarding, and ensuring completion of required training and certifications., • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to staff, identify training needs, and ensure compliance with organizational and contract requirements., • Provide timely and accurate purchase reconciliation information, including submission of cost codes and supporting documentation on a weekly basis in line with company financial procedures., • Prepare and submit required reporting to management to support government deliverables and invoicing, as applicable., • Support and coordinate project management, construction management, and facilities maintenance and support activities from an EHS perspective.Essential Skills, • At least five (5) years of recent experience managing environmental, health, and safety programs in a federal, military, or large-scale facilities operations environment., • Completed hazardous waste management training in accordance with 40 CFR 265.16, or the ability to obtain this training within 90 days of hire and maintain it annually., • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and DHEC requirements as they relate to facilities operations and support services., • Experience conducting incident investigations, safety audits, environmental reporting, and regulatory inspections., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the ability to maintain digital compliance records and safety data., • Strong communication skills, including the ability to deliver training and prepare clear, accurate documentation., • Experience with project management, construction management, facilities maintenance management, and facilities support in relation to EHS responsibilities., • Ability to supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, and manage onboarding and training requirements., • Ability to manage timekeeping processes and use systems such as timecard and Costpoint to ensure accurate labor tracking.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Professional safety or environmental certification is preferred, such as OSHA 30, CHMM, CSP, CSHO, HAZWOPER, or similar credentials., • Experience supporting multi-year contracts and multiple facilities or sites., • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining records, schedules, and compliance documentation., • Ability to lead safety briefings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills effectively with diverse teams and subcontractors., • Skill in analyzing root causes of incidents and implementing practical corrective actions.Work Environment This position provides on-site project support at federal training and naval weapons facilities, including FLETC and NWS locations. The work environment centers on active facilities operations, encompassing maintenance, custodial, grounds, warehouse, construction, and general support activities. The role requires regular presence in operational areas, conducting inspections, audits, and drills, and working closely with staff and subcontractors in the field and in office settings. The Safety Manager uses standard office technology, including Microsoft Office and digital compliance systems, as well as specialized EHS documentation and timekeeping tools such as Costpoint. The work involves supporting a long-term, multi-year contract and may require availability by phone 24/7 to respond to incidents, audits, or regulatory inquiries. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
