Job Description We’re looking for a compassionate, safety-focused Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver to join our wheelchair van team. In this role, you’ll safely transport patients with mobility challenges to and from medical appointments, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, adult day programs, and other approved destinations. You’ll play an important part in helping patients maintain their independence, dignity, and access to care. Key Responsibilities 1. Safe Transportation • Operate a wheelchair-accessible van in a safe, courteous, and professional manner., • Follow all traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures., • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any issues immediately. 2. Patient Assistance & Care • Assist passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle, including using lifts and ramps., • Properly secure wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices using tie-downs and safety belts., • Provide door-to-door or curb-to-curb assistance, depending on service requirements., • Offer supportive, respectful interaction to patients, families, and caregivers. 3. Safety & Compliance • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized vehicle interior and exterior., • Follow infection control protocols, including cleaning and sanitizing high-touch areas., • Adhere to HIPAA and company privacy standards; protect patient confidentiality at all times., • Follow all company policies on incident/accident reporting and emergency procedures. 4. Scheduling & Documentation • Review daily schedule, routes, and manifests prior to shift., • Use company-provided devices or apps to confirm pick-ups, drop-offs, and mileage., • Complete required paperwork, logs, and reports accurately and on time., • Communicate any delays, route issues, or schedule concerns to dispatch or supervisor promptly. 5. Customer Service • Greet each passenger with patience, respect, and professionalism., • Communicate clearly with patients, caregivers, facility staff, and medical personnel., • Represent the company positively in all interactions and maintain a professional appearance. Qualifications Required: • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record., • Minimum age 21 and 5 years of driving experience as required by state and company policy., • Ability to pass:, • Criminal background check, • Motor vehicle record (MVR) check, • Pre-employment drug screen (and random testing as required), • Ability to safely operate and maneuver a wheelchair-accessible van., • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to [e.g., 50–75] pounds as needed to assist passengers and equipment., • Strong customer service and communication skills., • Reliable, punctual, and professional work habits. Preferred: • Previous experience in:, • Non-emergency medical transportation, • Healthcare, caregiving, or senior services, • Paratransit, shuttle, or similar driving roles, • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within [X] days of hire)., • Familiarity with wheelchair tie-down systems and lift operations. Physical & Working Conditions • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and pushing/pulling while assisting passengers., • Working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)., • Prolonged periods of driving and sitting., • Ability to enter and exit vehicle multiple times per shift.
