Job Description Job Title: Wastewater PLC Technician Job Description The Wastewater PLC Technician operates, maintains, upgrades, repairs, and improves facility systems and equipment within an advanced manufacturing environment. This role supports facility projects from planning through execution, working within established design standards, regulations, and decision-making criteria. The technician contributes to facility modifications and repairs, supports project budgets and schedules, and directly assists departmental leadership in overseeing repairs and new construction projects. Responsibilities • Support minor water treatment operations, including closed-loop systems and basic reverse osmosis or filtration systems, by monitoring water quality, assisting with chemical dosing, and coordinating with external vendors as needed., • Troubleshoot and support equipment controlled by PLCs, including interpreting basic logic, performing I/O troubleshooting, and coordinating with controls engineers or integrators to resolve complex issues., • Coordinate and, when required, supervise hourly personnel such as electricians, maintenance mechanics, and machine operators within the plant engineering group on assigned projects., • Operate the SAP preventive maintenance and spare parts systems to plan and document maintenance activities and provide monthly downtime reports to management., • Perform a wide variety of routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment to ensure reliable facility operations., • Interact closely with production supervisors to minimize equipment downtime and, when needed, schedule other plant engineering personnel to provide optimal support to production., • Dismantle equipment using hand tools, identify and replace defective mechanical parts, and troubleshoot issues, working closely with vendors and ordering needed parts when required., • Coordinate facility inspections, including electrical, water, and utility inspections, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local codes., • Manage routine facility maintenance work and execute facility projects in alignment with safety, quality, and operational requirements., • Assist in achieving cost and quality objectives for the facility, including supporting energy efficiency optimization efforts., • Collaborate with a variety of contractors on new construction and remodel projects, reading and interpreting blueprints and contracts to coordinate deliverables and monitor performance., • Monitor performance of central services such as security, waste disposal, and parking to support overall facility operations., • Maintain records, reports, photographs, and files as required, and participate in internal and external audits when needed., • Purchase equipment, supplies, and materials as needed, and assist in preparing and tracking project-related expenses., • Alert management to any unsafe conditions observed in the facility and provide recommendations for building and infrastructure improvements., • Work onsite with a high variety of duties both inside and outside the building, including frequent exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and occasional after-hours or weekend work., • Monitor and support a wide variety of facility monitoring systems to ensure stable and compliant operations., • Support facility leadership by reporting on technical and infrastructure issues such as HVAC, electrical systems, fire safety, and purified water that could impact manufacturing operations., • Equivalent of four years of high school plus specialized training through night school, trade extension, or correspondence programs, comparable to two years of college-level education., • 5–8 years of recent related experience in maintenance concepts, safety codes, and building engineering., • At least 2 years of experience working in a clean room environment., • At least 3 years of experience with standard safety hazards and precautions in an industrial or facilities setting., • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills using various hand tools and performing spatial measurements., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, including basic logic understanding and I/O troubleshooting., • Proficiency with maintenance management software and SAP preventive maintenance and spare parts systems., • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to coordinate and occasionally supervise electricians, maintenance mechanics, and machine operators on projects., • Eligibility to work in an ITAR-regulated environment., • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems maintenance and repair., • Understanding of water treatment operations, closed-loop systems, and basic RO or filtration systems., • Experience working in advanced manufacturing or highly regulated environments., • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in facility and equipment maintenance., • Experience with waste treatment and wastewater systems in an industrial setting., • Background in preventive maintenance planning and execution for facility infrastructure., • Experience coordinating inspections for electrical, water, and utility systems and working within federal, state, and local codes., • Ability to work effectively with external contractors on new construction and remodel projects., • Experience monitoring and supporting central services such as security, waste disposal, and parking., • Strong organizational skills for maintaining detailed maintenance records, reports, and audit documentation., • Experience preparing and tracking project-related expenses and equipment purchases. Work Environment This role is based onsite in a facility environment that includes both indoor and outdoor work areas. You will work with a variety of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and water treatment systems, as well as PLC-controlled equipment and facility monitoring systems. The position generally follows standard business hours, but you may occasionally work additional hours, including weekends and holidays, to support maintenance needs and project deadlines. The facility includes clean room areas and advanced manufacturing spaces, where you will frequently encounter mechanical and electrical hazards and must follow strict safety procedures and regulatory requirements. Work involves regular use of hand tools, interaction with contractors and production staff, and use of systems such as SAP and maintenance management software to document and manage tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
