Job DescriptionJob Title: Chemist – Regulated Bioanalytical Laboratory Job Description This entry-level chemist position is part of a regulated bioanalytical team that focuses on biological sample analysis in a laboratory setting. You will begin by performing wet lab extractions on biological matrices and gradually progress to operating advanced analytical instrumentation such as HPLC and LC-MS. The role offers extensive structured training, strong mentorship, and the opportunity to take full ownership of the sample analysis process from extraction through data generation, all within a GLP-compliant environment. Responsibilities • Perform biological extractions on samples such as urine, blood, plasma, and other biological matrices according to established protocols., • Focus initially on wet lab chemistry, including sample preparation, solution preparation, and pipetting, with an emphasis on accuracy and consistency., • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, and pipettes, ensuring proper calibration and use., • Use electronic laboratory notebook software (eWorkbook) on a tablet to accurately document experimental procedures, observations, and results., • Work under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, following all standard operating procedures, documentation requirements, and quality standards., • After approximately 6 or more months of wet lab training, transition to operating HPLC and LC-MS (HPLC–Mass Spectrometry) instrumentation for analytical testing., • Learn and eventually run robotics for liquid handling to support high-throughput bioanalytical workflows., • Follow established tests and protocols, ensuring strict adherence to methods and regulatory requirements., • Collaborate closely with dedicated trainers and team members during the 6–9 month training period, actively participating in training sessions and applying feedback., • Take ownership of assigned sample analysis processes, contributing beyond extraction to the full analytical workflow rather than performing only a single task., • Recognize and report errors or deviations, document corrective actions, and implement changes to improve future performance., • Communicate effectively with colleagues and trainers to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented laboratory environment., • Manage multiple tasks and priorities, including sample handling, documentation, and instrument operation, while maintaining high attention to detail.Essential Skills, • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related life science discipline., • At least 1 year of chemistry experience gained through coursework or undergraduate research, including hands-on work with pipettes and preparation of solutions., • Practical experience with pipetting and wet chemistry techniques in a laboratory environment., • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow structured protocols and GLP regulations., • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with team members., • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment., • High sense of ownership and responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one’s work, including the ability to recognize and address errors., • Comfort working within a structured, process-driven environment with established tests and procedures.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with HPLC, LC-MS, or Mass Spectrometry is highly beneficial and can accelerate training on analytical instrumentation., • Previous experience in a regulated laboratory environment or familiarity with GLP practices is a plus., • Exposure to electronic laboratory notebook systems, such as eWorkbook, is advantageous., • Experience in food service, bartending, waitstaff, or other client-facing roles is helpful due to the fast-paced nature of the work, focus on meeting deadlines, and need for strong team communication., • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously., • Preference for structured work, including making lists, following rules, and seeking clear answers to questions., • Educational assistance opportunities are available to support continued professional development., • Eligibility to participate in a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, and AD&D coverage., • Eligibility for a tax-deferred 401(k) savings plan with employer matching and full vesting from day one., • Paid time off accruing at 24 days per calendar year (prorated during the first year) and 7 paid holidays per calendar year, subject to work schedule., • Access to an employee assistance program for additional support and resources., • Opportunity for pay increases when converted to full-time status and annual merit raises based on performance.Work Environment The role is based in a laboratory setting within a bioanalytical team of approximately 100 employees, with most work conducted at the bench. The environment is highly regulated and operates under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, with established tests, protocols, and structured workflows. You will use a variety of laboratory equipment, including balances, pH meters, pipettes, robotics for liquid handling, and analytical instruments such as HPLC and LC-MS, as well as tablet-based eWorkbook software for documentation. The position emphasizes continuous learning, with 6–9 months of structured training supported by multiple dedicated trainers before full assignment to study samples. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
