Job Description Seniors Helping Seniors Caregivers are the heart of the mission in serving our senior community in Northern Virginia. Our Caregivers make life easier by providing compassionate care in the comfort of our client’s home or living facility. Caregivers empower seniors to continue living independently by caring for day-to-day tasks that become more challenging as seniors age. Seniors Helping Seniors Caregivers are members of a non-medical home care team including an RN to perform various personal care, homemaker, and companion care services as necessary to meet the client’s needs according to the service plan of care. Caregivers are assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a client’s care. Job Responsibilities: Caregiver Duties Include: • Arrive on time for all service appointments, • Maintain highest standards of customer service and professionalism set by Seniors Helping Seniors in-home care, • Provide services as outlined in the client service agreement and plan of care, as applicable, • Maintain documentation for all services provided, • Record and report changes in client’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance to supervisor, • Report to the supervisor any incidents, problems, emergencies, or changes in client, • Communicate regularly and proactively with the Seniors Helping Seniors Arlington Office, • Participate in relevant in-service training opportunities, • Provide companionship and socialization for the client, • Accompany the client to doctors’ appointments, recreational outings, or other events, • Assist in maintaining a tidy, safe living space and perform light housekeeping tasks such as:, • Vacuuming, sweeping, wiping down counters, dish washing, room straightening, etc., • Meal preparation, • Laundering client’s clothing including washing, drying, folding and putting away laundry, • Shopping and running errands, • Light Yard Work (e.g., sweep walkways, rake leaves), • Light Handyman Services (e.g., change air filters, smoke detector batteries, lightbulbs), • Casual cosmetic assistance such as brushing hair or assisting with make-up, • Stabilize the client when walking, as needed, by holding the client's arm or hand, • Transportation using agreed upon vehicle, keeping track of related reports and mileage, • The performance of the personal care activities contained in the service plan of care which include assisting the client with activities of daily living of personal hygiene, ambulation, eating, dressing, toileting, shaving, physical transfer, and other duties, as assigned, • Assisting with the use of devices for aid to daily living, such as a wheelchair or walker, • Assisting with prescribed range of motion exercises, • Taking vital signs, if specified in care plan (e.g., temperature, pulse, respiration)., • Enjoys working with the senior population and understands the importance of our services, • A caring, empathetic, compassionate, and reliable individual, • High level of emotional intelligence, • Ability to follow detailed instructions to implement service plan, • High school diploma or G.E.D, • Must consent to and pass a criminal background check, • Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision, • Effective oral and written communication skills, • Ability to express spoken and/or written ideas in English, • A senior adult wanting to help fellow seniors live independently - a senior helping seniors, • Successful completion of a home attendant personal care program from an approved provider and compliance with state registry requirements, as applicable (e.g., HHA, PCA) Caregivers will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to practice acts. Specifically, Caregivers will not administer medications, take physician’s orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a Licensed Nurse. Only non-medical home care services will be provided by Seniors Helping Seniors Arlington. Working Conditions: Contact with clients in their living environment. Travel is required to/from the client’s home and for transportation services, as applicable. Position includes tasks that have the potential for a medium level of exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material such as body fluids if providing personal care services. All Caregivers are highly encouraged to have a baseline TB test on record with the organization prior to beginning client services. Caregivers are also strongly encouraged to receive routine vaccines, particularly the yearly flu vaccine and/or COVID booster. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push and pull. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. Geographic Location Served: This position focuses on serving clients in the Arlington and East Fairfax Counties of Northern Virginia.
