Job Description:\n\n Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking a Senior Lead Clinician in Concord, CA. This role is full-time, 40 hours per week with a hybrid schedule. SUMMARY Under the direction of the Senior Director of Clinical Quality Assurance, Medical Director, and in collaboration with the Clinical Operations and Health Center Leadership, the Senior Lead Clinician (SLC), will co-manage and support the Lead Clinicians with emphasis on the clinical and quality assurance components of their role. The SLC is a senior clinical leader at PPNorCal and will help to provide support, oversight, and build clinical leadership competence of the Lead Clinicians. In collaboration with the Director of Clinician Training and Development, the SLC will provide training, proctoring, and final assessment for sign off/privileging for clinicians to perform specialty clinical skills including, but not limited to, ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, vulvar biopsy, colposcopy, and laminaria insertion. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SENIOR LEAD CLINICIAN include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Co-manage and provide primary clinical and quality assurance oversight of Lead Clinicians. Participate in interviewing, hiring of Lead Clinicians.Orient, onboard and train new Lead Clinicians, provide them with feedback as needed, Onboard and train of new Lead Clinicians in collaboration with the Director of Clinician Training and Development. In collaboration with the Lead Clinician’s supervisor, complete the clinical performance and quality assurance portions of performance evaluations for Lead Clinicians. Conduct remediation and/or retraining of Lead Clinician duties as needed and report clinical or quality assurance performance issues to Senior Director of Clinical Quality Assurance, Director of Clinician Training and Development and Medical Director.Act as primary resource for Lead Clinicians in their clinical oversight of each health center.Serve as clinical resource to Lead Clinicians, regarding medical protocols and medical management issues.Provide trainings at Lead Clinician meetings as needed.Develop and implement changes to clinical practice based on results of audits and identification of best practices under the direction of the Senior Director of Clinical Quality Assurance and Medical Director.Provide support and training for Quality Assurance-related activities.Assist in preparation of scheduled and unscheduled audits, including PPFA accreditation.In collaboration with Clinical Operations managers and Human Resources departments, assist in interviewing and hiring, of clinicians.Assist in planning and facilitation of affiliate-wide clinician meetings.Conduct regular check-in meetings with each Lead Clinician.Conduct regular health center visits with each Lead Clinician.Develop and maintain relationships with all health centers, including regular travel to those health centers.Maintain clinical skills by providing regular clinical training and direct patient care. Provide interim coverage of Lead Clinician duties or assist in arranging for coverage of Lead Clinician duties when a Lead Clinician is on extended E.T.O, a leave of absence, or when a health center is left with a Lead Clinician vacancy. When directed by the Medical Director, participate in Clinician and Lead Clinician clinically related corrective action conversations. Attend and participate in Provider, Lead Clinician, Abortion Leadership and Quality Assurance meetings.Demonstrate interest and involvement in the PPNorCal affiliate.Serve as a resource in areas of clinical expertise for the affiliate. Present in-service programs as directed by the Senior Director of Clinical Quality Assurance and Medical Director.Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.Manage and resolve diverse perspectives by being sensitive to (or understanding) these differences and working to successfully address any related issues. Role-models and provides Leadership toward the implementation of PPNorCal’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan.Provide training and proctoring of licensed staff on clinical specialty skills (e.g., colposcopy, laminaria insertion) and ultrasounds.In conjunction with the Clinician Trainer, oversee proctoring and privileging documentation process, standardization, and management. Conduct final sign-off assessment for ultrasound privileges. Train licensed (transvaginal and transabdominal) and unlicensed (transabdominal) staff in ultrasound.Provide feedback to the Clinician Trainer, Center Director, and other Medical and Client Services leadership regarding performance of trainees.Complete, timely and accurate documentation of training and privileging.Trains licensed staff on specialty skills including but not limited to laminaria insertion, vulvar biopsy, endometrial biopsy.Acts as preceptor/trainer for licensed staff after completion of ASCCP colposcopy training course, during affiliate colposcopy training.Regularly provides feedback to the Clinician Trainer, Center Director, Chief Medical Officer, Associate Medical Director and other Medical and Client Services leadership regarding performance of trainees. Direct patient careWork in the health center providing comprehensive clinical sexual and reproductive health care services to all patients in accordance with evidence-based practice protocols.Utilize knowledge of and experience in patient care to: Obtain a basic health history and comprehensive gynecological (GYN) history,Perform a general physical exam, breast exam, GYN exam, and male genitourinary exam,Recognize common breast and GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate,Recognize common non-GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate,Provide preventive care, including screening for breast and cervical cancers,Obtain and interpret laboratory tests and results related to GYN visits,Perform and interpret transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds,Screen for contraindications and special conditions to contraceptive methods,Provide appropriate contraception to patients, including intrauterine contraceptives (IUCs) and implants,Test and treat STDs and other infectious conditions,Provide PrEP and nPEP to prevent HIV infection,Provide care across the reproductive health lifespan, including basic infertility services and menopause management,Provide medication abortion, early pregnancy complication management, and other special services as appropriate by licensure,Assess and manage complications from surgical abortion, medication abortion, and vasectomy.Provide care for patients of all gender identities, including gender-affirming care,Exercise a commitment diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions with patients and staff,Construct an accurate assessment and plan based on history, exam, and lab findings, Provide patient with general reproductive health maintenance, education and counseling,Ensure complete and accurate medical documentation,Act as a medical resource for health center staff,Provides uterine aspiration for miscarriage management, failed Medication Abortion, and termination of pregnancy up to and including 13.6 weeks gestational age,Provide colposcopy services as needed.Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity, with the goal of 3.0 visits per hour.Bill and code patient visits appropriately.Participate in research studies conducted in the health center. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES OF SENIOR LEAD CLINICIAN The SLC will clinically supervise and co-manage Lead Clinicians, in partnership with the Lead Clinician’s supervisor. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint software programs. Pay Range: The wage scale reflects the compensation that a new employee can expect to receive if offered employment. The wage scale for this position is $139,000 to $207,100 annualized salary, based on relevant professional years of experience.
