Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Milling Machine Set Up Technician / Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical CNC milling machines to produce precision components for aerospace, defense, and medical applications. You ensure each part meets exact specifications and quality standards by applying strong machining knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and the use of precision measuring instruments. You support efficient production workflows while maintaining a high level of accuracy, contributing directly to the organization’s long-standing reputation for excellence in manufacturing. Responsibilities • Set up and operate 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical CNC milling machines to produce precision components according to engineering specifications., • Write, edit, and adjust basic CNC programs using G-code to achieve optimal machining performance and part quality., • Program and work with positional indexers to support complex part geometries and multi-axis machining operations., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements, sequences, and dimensions., • Apply working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure parts meet all dimensional and tolerance specifications., • Use various precision measuring instruments and gauges to verify both first piece and production dimensions, ensuring parts conform to quality standards., • Inspect parts during and after machining, identifying deviations and making necessary adjustments to tooling, offsets, or programs., • Maintain attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in all machining tasks to minimize scrap and rework., • Collaborate in a team-based environment, coordinating with leadership and colleagues to support efficient production workflows., • Follow established shop procedures and best practices to ensure consistent quality and safe operation of equipment., • Contribute to continuous improvement by communicating process issues and suggesting enhancements to machining methods or setups.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up and running 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical CNC milling machines., • Proficiency with Fanuc CNC controls, including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting., • Ability to write and edit basic CNC programs using G-code., • Capability to program and work with positional indexers in a CNC milling environment., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings., • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)., • Competence in using precision measuring instruments and gauges to verify first piece and production dimensions., • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in all aspects of machining., • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a team-based environment., • Solid understanding of CNC machining principles, setups, and tooling practices.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience producing precision components for industries such as aerospace, defense, or medical manufacturing., • Background in a small, high-mix, high-precision job shop environment., • Comfort reporting to and collaborating directly with shop leadership., • Demonstrated ability to support efficient production workflows while maintaining high quality standards.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time, first-shift position in a mid-sized CNC manufacturing facility that specializes in precision components for aerospace, defense, and medical applications. You work primarily on 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical CNC milling machines equipped with Fanuc controls and positional indexers. The environment is a traditional machine shop setting, where you routinely use precision measuring instruments and gauges to verify part quality. Operations follow structured procedures and quality standards, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, safety, and teamwork during standard daytime hours. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milford, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
