Job Description About Explore! Community School At Explore! we always begin with our mission: to foster the independence, critical thinking, and creativity of a diverse community of learners so they are fully prepared to become confident, conscientious leaders who change the world. To achieve our mission we emphasize interactive, hands-on, project-based learning to build upon our rigorous, standards-based curriculum and ensure learning is authentic, meaningful, and fun. We focus on the whole child, nurturing the social and emotional development of Explorers while fostering their academic excellence. Explore! serves a diverse community of learners in grades K-8 and currently enrolls 600 students supported by 80+ staff members. Explore is located in East Nashville, occupies a beautiful, recently constructed, 90,000 square foot, state of the art building and with capacity for 850 students expects continued enrollment growth. Explore! Community School is an educational outreach of the Martha O’Bryan Center, one of Nashville’s oldest and most impactful anti-poverty organizations with a community based educational mission. Along with our sister school, East End Prep, both schools support approximately 1500 students across Nashville. Explore! was unanimously renewed for an additional ten year charter through 2035 and is authorized by Metro Nashville Public Schools. We are seeking a skilled educational leader to guide our continued growth and success as we embark on our next decade of service to the Nashville community. The school was a Tennessee Reward School in 2022 and has delivered 4 consecutive years of Level 5 TVAAS. The Position We are seeking an Executive Principal to model our core values, lead our terrific staff, deliver academic results, and expand our enrollment. The Principal reports to the VP of Schools and is accountable to a governing board. The school is authorized by Metro Nashville Public Schools and the leader is accountable for ensuring performance that meets or exceeds authorizer and state requirements. The Principal will ensure academic quality, support teachers’ professional development, implement high standards for community conduct, and maintain a strong, joyful culture among students, staff, and families. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Page BreakLeading School Culture • Model Explore’s Core Values and Commitments at the highest level and provide inspiring, daily, on site leadership;, • Oversee students’ academic and behavioral program, including disciplinary decisions and enforcement of the Community Handbook;, • Develop strong relationships with families and students, creating investment in our mission and methods and coach all staff to do the same;, • Ensure a rigorous, consistently implemented Instructional model that delivers strong academic outcomes for all students;, • Meet or exceed annual goals for academic outcomes, enrollment, compliance., • Communicate a clear, consistent, results-oriented vision for school-wide instructional practice;, • Drive ongoing improvement through feedback, coaching, and professional development;, • Guide the collection, analysis, and response to a diverse set of data to foster continuous improvement;, • Supervise and develop a leadership team that inspires and motivates staff to achieve Explore’s mission, academic outcomes, and expanded enrollment;, • Model our Core Values and exercise sound judgement even under pressure;, • Foster the development of a high-performing staff through systematic procedures for hiring, goalsetting, supervision, support, evaluation, retention, and dismissal;, • Seek out and incorporate feedback to ensure utilization of the community’s collective expertise;, • Supervise and support the school’s leadership team in accomplishing the school’s goals;, • Manage systems and procedures to ensure school compliance and minimize non-instructional tasks for teachers; Commitment to Explore!
