Company Description Justice Defenders; a team of seven attorney who provide representation for indigent adults and juveniles charged with criminal offenses in Santa Maria and Lompoc, California under a contract with the County of Santa Barbara. Role Description The conflict attorney will handle a range of legal responsibilities, including providing representation in felony cases and misdemeanor, preparing and filing legal documents, advising clients on legal matters, and conducting thorough legal research. The role involves negotiating on behalf of clients and ensuring the best possible outcomes in conflict cases and jury trials where no settlement is reached. Collaboration with colleagues and communicating effectively with clients are integral aspects of this position. This is a 3/4 time independent contractor position. It is a non-exclusive position that permits the attorney to represent retained clients as well. The position is an independent contractor hired by Justice Defenders. The salary is $8,000.00 per month. Justice Defenders will pay malpractice insurance and provide clerical support, interpreters, experts, investigators and access to Westlaw legal research Qualifications • Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in Criminal Law, • Proven ability to interpret and apply the law effectively, • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, • Expertise in conducting detailed legal Research and analyzing cases, • Strong organizational and time management abilities, • Juris Doctor degree and current license in good standing to practice law in California, • Previous felony jury trial experience is required, • Previous criminal law and motion experience is required
