American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Charlotte, North Carolina. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 20, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • 36-bed Medical unit within a 874-licensed-bed Level I Trauma teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, • High-acuity patient population including spinal surgery/fusion, stroke, seizure, myasthenia gravis, brain tumors/lesions, and altered mental status (AMS), • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 based on acuity; ratios may increase up to 1:7–8 during surge staffing, • CNA support available with variable ratios, • No telemetry monitoring tech on unit — nurses are responsible for reading monitors and responding, • EMR: Epic (experience required), • IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; vitals: Masimo (stationary) and Philips (portable), • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week, • Every-other-weekend rotation required, • No on-call or call-back requirements, • Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle, • Floating is required within the assigned region and scope of practice, potentially to multiple facilities across the regionRequirements, • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand, • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year, • Stroke experience required, • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, • Clinical skills required: trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff placement, PEG tube management, drain management (Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals), foley insertion/management, and PCA pump management, • Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids, • Comfortable managing post-op neuro and spine patients, including patient and family education, • Experience assessing and managing acute and chronic pain, including in patients with a history of substance abuse, using multimodal approaches including opioid administration, • Must be willing and able to float to multiple facilities within the assigned region, • 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration, • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for considerationAdditional Information, • Candidate's permanent address must be 50 miles or more from the facility; local candidates are not accepted, • Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible, • First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered, • Orientation includes facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation, • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays, • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any shortfall in contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract, • No more than 2 call-offs are permitted during the 13-week contract; exceeding this may result in cancellation, • Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, positive attitude, openness to real-time feedback, and a strong focus on quality care including CAUTI, HAPI, fall, and CLABSI prevention, • Department support includes a 24/7 charge nurse, hospitalist, intensivist, respiratory therapy (RT), IV/VAT team, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), HUC/receptionist, and resource nurse (as available), • Required scrub color: Navy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
