Job Description About This Role As a Low Voltage Technician with Avid Practice, you'll be at the forefront of transforming ordinary apartment communities into cutting-edge smart buildings. Your days will be spent working across multifamily properties throughout Maryland, where you'll install the technology infrastructure that makes modern living possible—from fiber-optic backbones and enterprise-grade Wi-Fi networks to keyless entry systems, smart thermostats, and comprehensive security camera arrays. This isn't routine electrical work; you'll be solving unique installation challenges, working with the latest IoT devices and networked systems, and seeing the direct impact of your craftsmanship as residents gain secure access to their homes, property managers monitor building operations in real-time, and entire communities become connected ecosystems. You'll work independently with significant autonomy, managing your own installations from blueprint to final testing, while being supported by a collaborative technical team. Physical Requirements • Work from ladders (6-40 feet) and aerial lifts, • Lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs, • Work in confined spaces, attics, above ceilings, • Extended periods standing, kneeling, climbing Cabling Infrastructure: • Read and interpret architectural blueprints, electrical plans, low voltage schematics, • Install Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a data cabling per TIA/EIA standards, • Run coaxial, fiber optic, and multi-conductor cables, • Maintain proper bend radius, cable management, and separation from high voltage, • Terminate RJ45 jacks and patch panels to T568A/B standards, • Terminate fiber optic connectors (SC, LC), • Install BNC, F-type, and other specialty connectors, • Test and certify cabling using Fluke or similar testers, • Verify continuity, resistance, and signal quality, • Mount and wire access control panels, door strikes, mag locks, card readers, REX sensors, • Install IP cameras, NVRs, and surveillance equipment, • Deploy network equipment (switches, access points, routers, firewalls), • Wire and program smart locks, thermostats, leak sensors, noise monitors, • Install alarm panels and security devices, • Deploy VOIP phone systems and paging equipment, • Power tools (drills, impact drivers, reciprocating saws, hole saws), • Cable installation tools (fish tapes, rods, cable pullers), • Termination tools (punch-down, crimpers, fusion splicers), • Testing equipment (cable certifiers, toners, multimeters, PoE testers), • Lifts and ladders (extension, step, scissor lifts, boom lifts), • Read blueprints and install low voltage cabling to NEC Article 725 standards, • Terminate cables, label all connections, update documentation, • Test all circuits and document results, • Install access control hardware (strikes, openers, card readers, controllers), • Mount and aim surveillance cameras, run camera cables, • Deploy network infrastructure (switches, APs, routers), • Install smart building devices (locks, thermostats, sensors), • Configure and test VOIP systems, • Install submetering equipment, • Create detailed service tickets documenting work performed, • Maintain inventory and tool tracking, • Collaborate with project managers and support teams, • Troubleshoot installation issues and determine root cause, • Ensure work sites are clean and professional, • 2+ years low voltage installation experience, • Electrical or electronics technical training preferred, • Valid driver's license and clean driving record, • Aerial lift and scissor lift certification (or willingness to obtain), • Familiarity with NEC Article 725, TIA/EIA standards, • Experience with access control, IP cameras, network equipment, • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills, • Professional communication and customer service skills, • Fluke or Trendnet cable certification training, • BICSI Installer 1 or 2, • Axis camera installation certification, • Manufacturer certifications (Avigilon, Lenel, HID, Ruckus), • OSHA 10 or 30, • Low voltage or electrical licenseCompany DescriptionSince 2003, Avid Practice has empowered businesses, nonprofits, multi-family properties, and small- to mid-sized organizations—including law firms, medical practices, manufacturing companies, hospitality providers, and accounting firms—with exemplary managed IT, cybersecurity, and smart technology solutions.
