How you’ll contribute… The Construction Workforce Manager will be a strategic leader responsible for planning, developing, and deploying Boyd Jones’ craft workforce across all commercial construction projects. This includes laborers, carpenters, operators, welders, and other skilled trades. This role is critical to optimizing labor utilization, fostering a culture of safety and high performance, and ensuring projects are staffed with skilled personnel to meet production goals, quality standards, and budgetary requirements. The Construction Workforce Manager will collaborate closely with Operations Leadership, Safety, Human Resources, and Talent Acquisition to ensure that our craft professionals are trained, engaged, and positioned for long-term success. Key Responsibilities… Safety • Champion and model Boyd Jones’ commitment to an injury-free environment., • Lead the integration of safety best practices across craft operations, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and pre-task planning., • Partner with General Superintendents, Project Managers, and Superintendents to align staffing plans and monitor workforce effectiveness through site visits., • Maintain a clear picture of current and future workforce needs; identify and close skill gaps., • Manage regional and national deployment of craft labor, utilizing internal workforce planning tools., • Classify craft employees by trade, skill set, and certifications to maximize workforce deployment. Training & Development • Lead the creation of career paths, certification criteria, and advancement opportunities for craft professionals., • Facilitate performance reviews and compensation adjustments amongst craft workforce., • Partner with internal and external training providers to deliver technical, safety, leadership, and technology training., • Ensure continuous skill development to strengthen Boyd Jones’ self-perform capabilities., • Manage and implement apprenticeship programs Talent Acquisition Support & Partnership • Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely submission and approval of personal time off (PTO) requests from the craft workforce., • Assume responsibility for tracking and proactively monitoring craft labor compensation, including labor market data and trends., • Assume responsibility for managing any craft workforce grievances, issues or disputes while partnering with other company resources/departments (Safety and/or Human Resources), • Partner with Project Management to proactively identify and mitigate schedule and cost impacts associated with project changes affecting craft labor resources., • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and consistent application of owner and subcontractor contract terms and conditions as they relate to craft labor requirements and self-perform work., • Provide expert guidance and assist in the strategic selection of tools and equipment necessary for efficient and safe craft self-perform operations. What you’ll bring… • High School diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred (relevant experience considered in lieu)., • 7+ years of commercial construction experience, with at least 5 years in field labor management or supervision., • Proven success in workforce planning, craft development, and labor productivity management., • Strong knowledge of construction safety standards, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices., • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing teams., • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills., • Proficiency in workforce planning and construction management software, along with MS Office Suite., • Ability to travel regularly between project sites (regional and occasional national)., • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. Work Environment • This role will split time between an office environment and active construction job sites., • Office setting includes standard equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and related technology in a climate-controlled environment with moderate noise levels., • Construction job sites involve exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind) and fluctuating outdoor temperatures., • Job sites may present moderate to high noise levels, airborne particles/dust, uneven surfaces, heavy equipment, and other typical construction hazards., • Regular travel between project sites and company offices is required, which may include regional and occasional national travel., • The position requires adherence to all safety protocols, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and consistent modeling of a safety-first mindset.
