Job DescriptionSummary: The 5th – 8th Associate Deans of Culture at East End Prep will work with the Deans of Academics, the Dean of Social Emotional Learning, the Dean of Culture, and the 5-8 Principal to ensure that all students demonstrate dramatic student achievement gains, build strong character, leadership skills, and internalize the school’s values. This individual will also help lead the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, consistent, caring, and disciplined school environment. This position will report directly to the 5th - 8th grade Dean of Culture. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Reinforce the effective use of the school-wide culture playbook, including helping manage alongside the Dean of Culture, the school’s merit and demerit systems, and the scaled consequence matrix., • Serve as another point person for dealing with acute behavioral issues, • Keep accurate student discipline records, documenting phone calls, suspensions, etc., alongside and with support from the Dean of Culture., • Serve as the main culture point of contact if the Dean of Culture is absent, • Manage lunch duty, lunch detention, and ISS for assigned grade levels daily, • Work in collaboration with academic leaders and school leadership to support and maintain a high-trust, team-first, and inspiring staff culture that puts a high value on the well-being of the team as a whole and as individuals., • Dedicated to building a joyful culture with all stakeholders (family, scholars, staff) and having a mindset that embraces leading with positivity and assuming the best from all stakeholders., • Work closely with academic leaders to establish a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and inspiring school culture and monitor student progress toward their goals., • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in an urban, [charter] setting preferred, • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a management or leadership capacity preferred, • Proven track record of meeting high standards for student achievement and culture, • Strong instructional, classroom management, and discipline skills, • Excellent professional communication skills with parents and staff, • Demonstrated ability to coach teachers around student culture and classroom management, • Ability to manage multiple priorities from a variety of sources, organizing and prioritizing effectively to impact areas of greatest need;, • Experience organizing and facilitating effective meetings;, • Point of clarity #1: The Associate Deans of Culture are not responsible for directly coaching or supporting any other adults in the building. Their primary function is to interact with students and parents. Therefore, this position does not sit on the 5-8 Leadership Team., • Point of clarity #2: Part of the Dean of Culture’s job description is zooming out to have a larger view on the 5-8 student culture vision and culture playbook fidelity. The hope with this restructuring is that the Associate Deans will take on a larger role in the day-to-day referral and consequence management with students. The Dean of Culture will then be able to conduct planned culture walkthroughs, have greater visibility of classrooms, be able to partner more closely with staff on how to support them, and analyze data more regularly to determine the best next steps., • The DOC, the DSEL, and the ADOCs will work together to ensure the following vision of excellence is made possible: Create a safe, wholesome, and inspiring environment where every scholar, staff member, and family feels seen and successful. Through strong relationships, high expectations, and innovative practices, we challenge everyone to reach their fullest potential and thrive together., • Dean of Culture's overarching responsibilities:, • Lead vision & school-wide culture, • Coach ADOCs and model behavior expectations, • Analyze school-wide behavior data weekly, • Manage escalated incidents or repeated ISS cases, • Approve school-wide incentives & celebrations, • Support teachers with culture strategies and restorative practices, • Associate Deans of Culture's overarching responsibilities:, • Monitor Power Routines: Arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, restrooms, active play, • ISS Facilitation: Run daily ISS, guide scholars, ensure work completion, log reflections, • Merit/Demerit Tracking: Daily tracking; print weekly paychecks, • Incentive Execution: Plan and run grade-level celebrations, • Daily Support: Serve as first responder to behavior issues in their assigned grade levels ADOC DOC Monitor power routines Assist in daily execution Lead, support, observe, and action plan Run ISS Facilitate daily Oversee & manage escalations Restorative sessions 1:1 with scholars as needed Complex cases & escalations Incentive planning Lead the planning for assigned grade-levels Approve & align school-wide Print paychecks Print & distribute Review accuracy Data review Daily tracking Weekly analysis & strategy Coaching teachers 1:1 feedback as needed Formal coaching & feedback Student escalations Manage daily Intervene in serious/repeat cases What the Essential Duties and Responsibilities Might Look Like Day-to-Day At EEP, we value both clarity and flexibility. We know that school buildings are dynamic places, and we expect all of our associate deans to be flexible in their role and maintain a healthy “team first” attitude to support the overall needs of their school. We also know that “clear is kind,” and below you can see how associate deans should use their time and the standard weekly and monthly expectations. You may see expectations adjusted throughout the school year, and the outline below provides a general overview. Thinking about your time (these are rough estimates) • 75% of your time should be spent on: (Under the direction of the Dean of Culture), • Monitoring and supporting:, • lunch, transitions, bathrooms, arrival/dismissal, classroom entry/exit, etc., • We will review and rotate the schedule for power routine check-ins per grade level, • Responding to:, • Slack messages, student referrals, student resets, calling parents, and following up with teachers (ensure close collaboration with the Dean of Culture to ensure alignment and consistency of consequences)., • Accurately resolving and sending Incident reports (with details) to families and setting Re-Entry meeting dates (on Google Calendar for all stakeholders) for incidents you resolve, • Proactively checking in with specific students, • Review and check in on high flyers (students with a history of repeated misbehavior) on the master list, • Morning rounds → intentional goal setting/ affirmation, • Staff and Student Culture help and planning, • Proactively plan aspects of Community Celebrations, Staff celebrations, Paycheck parties, collaborate with the Dean of Culture to plan pop-up incentive ideas of your own to honor scholars who have gone above and beyond, • Monitoring the Dean’s Office, In-School Suspension, and Detention, • 5-10%: Development:, • Continued development of skills:, • Walkthroughs with the Dean of Culture to observe blind spots and gaps, especially with power routine execution and fidelity (arrival, AM homeroom, lunch, active play, and dismissal)., • 20%: Other responsibilities:, • Updating data trackers and turning in deliverables on time, • Special events (planning and executing personal ideas),, • Coverage when delegated Tennessee Teacher Certification Preferred Compensation & Benefits: This position offers a competitive salary range commensurate with experience and robust benefits including medical, dental and retirement.
