Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is seeking Emergency Veterinary Technicians/Assistants to support our expanding ER team. This position offers part-time or full-time options, with 12-hour evening and overnight shifts designed for those who want hands-on emergency experience while keeping weekdays open. Whether you’re transitioning from general practice or already have ER exposure, this role offers exceptional opportunities to build your clinical skills and support pets during their most critical moments. ⭐ What You’ll Do: Emergency-Focused Responsibilities • Perform immediate patient triage upon arrival, • Assist with stabilization during trauma, respiratory distress, GI emergencies, toxicities, and other urgent cases, • Determine patient priority based on severity and ER protocols, • Communicate efficiently with clients and veterinarians during high-stress situations, • Assist with IV catheter placement, venipuncture, laboratory sample collection, and fluid therapy, • Take diagnostic radiographs and prepare patients for ultrasound, • Administer oral, injectable, IV, IM, and SQ medications, • Perform wound care, bandaging, splinting, and rapid-care procedures, • Support patients requiring oxygen therapy or other emergency treatments, • Assist during emergency procedures including:, • GDV stabilization, • Trauma and laceration management, • Respiratory support setups, • Sedation and anesthetic monitoring for ER procedures, • Run in-house diagnostics including CBC, chemistry, electrolytes, coagulation panels, and blood typing, • Provide close monitoring throughout the patient’s emergency stay, • Document vitals, pain scores, and treatment responses in real time, • Communicate patient changes promptly to the attending doctor, • Offer compassionate updates throughout evening and overnight stays, • Provide clear, accurate discharge instructions and home-care guidance, • Maintain thorough, accurate EMRs including treatments, diagnostics, medication logs, and triage assessments, • Ensure ER treatment, triage, and exam areas remain clean, stocked, and ready for rapid patient turnover, • 2–3 years of veterinary experience in a clinical or hospital setting, • Strong technical competency in anesthesia monitoring, radiology, nursing care, and/or emergency procedures, • Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent judgment and attention to detail, • Exceptional communication skills with a compassionate, patient-first mindset, • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, • Physically able to stand, walk, lift, restrain, and assist animals of varying sizes safely, • Reliable, punctual, and committed to supporting overnight and weekend emergency carePreferred Experience (Not Required), • LVT, RVT, or CVT certification, • Prior experience in ICU, Internal Medicine, or Emergency departments, • Familiarity with specialty diagnostics, critical care protocols, blood transfusion procedures, or advanced monitoring tools, • Experience working with unstable, high-acuity patients or triage scenarios, • $21.00–$25.00/hr based on experience, • $26+/hr negotiable for actively Licensed Veterinary Technicians with ER/Specialty experience, • Overnight differential: +$2/hr starting at 12:00 AM each overnight shift, • Part-time or full-time options available, • 12-hour shifts—evenings & overnights, • PTO for rest, personal time, and vacation, • Additional CE PTO, • Paid CE opportunities (workshops, conferences, online learning), • Support for pursuing advanced skills, specialty training, and veterinary technician specialties (VTS), • Opportunities for internal advancement and cross-training, • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, • Retirement planning options, • Disability and life insurance, • Employee assistance programs, • Student loan and licensure support for eligible recent graduates, • Sign-on or relocation incentives for highly qualified LVTs with ER or Specialty backgrounds, • A positive, collaborative culture rooted in respect, professional growth, and high-quality medicine, • Access to modern, advanced veterinary technology and state-of-the-art facilitiesThis is an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience with high-acuity cases, develop advanced patient care skills, and make a meaningful impact—all while being part of a team committed to your growth.
