Job DescriptionJob Title: Fire Sprinkler Service Technician Job Description The Fire Sprinkler Service Technician inspects, tests, repairs, and maintains fire sprinkler systems to ensure they operate reliably and comply with all applicable fire protection codes and standards. This role works closely with building stakeholders and regulatory authorities to identify deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and maintain the integrity and performance of fire protection systems in commercial and industrial environments. Responsibilities • Conduct routine inspections and functional testing of wet, dry, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems to identify and correct deficiencies in accordance with applicable codes and standards., • Prepare clear, detailed reports documenting inspection findings, test results, identified deficiencies, and non-compliance issues, ensuring documentation aligns with relevant fire protection codes and regulations., • Test and evaluate the functionality of sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems to verify proper operation and system performance., • Inspect piping, fittings, and system connections for corrosion, leaks, or physical damage, and recommend or perform necessary repairs or component replacements., • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fire sprinkler systems, including replacing damaged or malfunctioning components, cleaning pipes and sprinkler heads, lubricating moving parts, and adjusting system settings for optimal performance., • Inspect and test fire pump assemblies, including verifying flow rates, pressure levels, and overall mechanical integrity., • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency requests, diagnose system issues, and implement effective solutions to restore full system functionality., • Document all service activities accurately and thoroughly, including inspection reports, work orders, parts usage, and customer notes, using the Service Trade operations platform., • Collaborate with contractors, building representatives, and regulatory authorities to address system issues, clarify requirements, and ensure ongoing compliance with fire protection standards., • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on active systems within commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.Essential Skills, • Solid understanding of fire protection codes, standards, and regulations, including applicable fire and building codes and industry standards., • Demonstrated experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial settings., • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently., • Hands-on experience working with fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, and pre-action systems., • Ability to inspect, test, and service fire pumps and related equipment., • Proficiency in documenting inspections, test results, and service activities in a digital operations platform such as Service Trade., • Working knowledge of backflow prevention devices and their role in fire protection systems., • Capability to perform inspections, service, and installation tasks on sprinkler systems and associated components., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to code compliance and system reliability., • Effective communication skills for interacting with building personnel, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • NICET certifications strongly preferred; NICET Level II or above required for top technician levels., • Factory certifications for fire alarm systems are preferred., • Manufacturer certifications for sprinkler systems are preferred., • Certifications related to backflow prevention and fire pumps are preferred., • Prior experience with inspection, service, and installation of fire sprinkler and fire pump systems., • Comfort using digital tools and software platforms to complete reports and work orders., • Ongoing interest in training, professional development, and obtaining additional certifications in fire protection.Why Work Here? Work Environment Work takes place primarily in commercial and industrial buildings, as well as facilities such as schools and hotels. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional service calls or urgent requests as needed. The role involves traveling between customer sites, working on active fire sprinkler and fire pump systems, and using standard trade tools, testing equipment, and digital operations platforms. Technicians operate in a field-based environment that requires adherence to safety procedures and appropriate professional attire suitable for mechanical rooms, plant areas, and other building spaces. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $41.00/hr.
