Job Description Primary Job Title: Transmission & Distribution Engineer Alternate/Related Job Titles: • Protection & Controls Engineer, • Relay Settings Engineer, • Power Systems Engineer Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid (In-office Wednesdays and Thursdays each week; remote option available for candidates with 5+ years of relevant experience. 100% remote possible for the right candidate.) Contract Details: • Position Type: Contract, • Contract Duration: Approximately 18 months, • Start: As Soon As Possible, • Support capital program projects as needed (DSP, TSP, SUB IR, DSERP, etc.)., • Gather and evaluate line, transformer, and generator data to model systems in CAPE, CYME, and other protection software., • Perform short-circuit and protection coordination studies and develop corresponding relay settings., • Issue substation relays and field auto-recloser settings (Client, SEL, and Electromagnetic) via ASPEN relay database., • Support Test Technicians during commissioning, review and approve returned “as-left” relay setting files, and make necessary revisions., • Conduct system studies and provide protection requirements for design., • Provide ongoing support to Test Technicians and Operators., • Perform QA review of protection deliverables, including settings, logic diagrams, and calculation sheets., • Review and sign off on one-line, AC/DC, and logic drawings to ensure design quality., • Collaborate with Substation, Distribution Field, Project, and Apparatus Engineers to deliver reliable, compliant protection designs., • Occasional field travel for job walks or testing support as required.Long-Term Responsibilities:, • QA support for review of protection deliverables (settings, relay electronic files, calculations, logic)., • Design and validate protective relaying systems to ensure reliability of the grid., • Participate in relay setting development and review to maintain compliance with WECC and NERC PRC requirements.Required Experience:, • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline., • 10+ years of experience in protection, substation, or distribution engineering within the electric utility industry or equivalent., • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)., • Proven experience developing and peer-reviewing protective relay settings from 12kV to 765kV., • Expertise with Schweitzer (SEL) and GE (Client EnerVista) relays., • Deep understanding of NERC PRC compliance, fault analysis, and coordination studies., • Hands-on experience with CAPE, ASPEN, and CYME tools., • Knowledge of digital logic design, AC/DC schematics, and system one-line diagrams.Desired Experience & Attributes:, • Experience programming relay settings and preparing documentation for Test Technicians., • Knowledge of substation automation, transformer protection, and auto-recloser settings., • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Project., • Strong communication and project coordination skills., • Ability to deliver quality engineering work under minimal supervision.Core Technical Skills (Top 3 Focus Areas):, • Engineering Drawings & Schematics: Ability to read and interpret one-line, elementary, DC/AC, and logic diagrams., • System Evaluation: Evaluate physical system characteristics to develop accurate operational relay settings., • Relay Programming: Translate developed settings into electronic relay programming files (experience with Schweitzer and GE relays preferred).Additional Notes:, • Utilities industry experience preferred but not required., • Must demonstrate ability to stay current with technology and industry best practices.Benefits:, • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans About GTT: GTT is a minority-owned staffing firm and a subsidiary of Chenega Corporation, a Native American-owned company in Alaska.
