Job DescriptionDescription: Quality Control Manager – Steel Fabrication Pay: $31.00 – $39.00 per hour Location: In person (Covina, CA) About the Role Structural Support Systems is seeking a technically skilled Quality Control Manager with a strong background in steel fabrication to ensure our custom-built structures meet the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and craftsmanship. This role serves as a critical bridge between our CADD design team and fabrication shop, ensuring that every product we deliver is built precisely to spec. This is not a hands-off inspector role — it's a leadership position requiring deep understanding of fabrication practices, weld evaluation, technical drawing interpretation, and proactive collaboration with both engineers and production staff. Benefits • 401(k) + matching, • Medical, dental, vision insurance, • Paid time off, • Health & dependent care FSA, • Employee assistance program Product Quality Assurance • Review and interpret shop drawings and fabrication details to confirm clarity and buildability., • Inspect in-process and finished steel components for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, surface finish, and alignment with technical specifications., • Identify, document, and follow up on nonconformances with welds, materials, or fitment., • Work with welders and fabricators to coach best practices and continuously improve quality output., • Serve as the technical liaison between the CAD design team and the fabrication floor, ensuring that all drawing requirements and intent are clearly understood., • Participate in drawing reviews and raise potential issues or buildability concerns early in the process., • Provide feedback to designers and engineers to improve clarity, reduce rework, and streamline fabrication., • Maintain and refine quality inspection checklists, standard operating procedures, and documentation systems., • Support internal audits and ensure consistent application of QA processes across all jobs., • Analyze recurring quality issues and recommend technical or process solutions to address root causes., • Minimum 5 years of experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, or structural manufacturing environments., • Strong understanding of welding principles, fabrication tolerances, grinding/finishing techniques, and coatings., • Ability to visually evaluate welds for penetration, continuity, defects, and finish — without needing to be a certified welder., • Fluent in reading and interpreting structural steel drawings, fabrication details, and tolerance callouts., • Experience working with or alongside CAD and engineering teams; familiarity with fabrication drawing tools preferred., • Proficiency with measurement tools (calipers, tape measures, angle finders, levels, etc.) and visual inspection techniques., • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills., • Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment, including exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy machinery., • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours per shift)., • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders or stairs as needed to inspect fabricated components., • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds., • Visual acuity sufficient to read technical drawings, measure tolerances, and inspect welds and surface finishes with precision., • Manual dexterity and steady hand-eye coordination for handling measurement tools, gauges, and inspection equipment., • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, ear protection, gloves, and high-visibility vest.
