Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist, • Discipline: Allied Health Professional, • Start Date: 05/04/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, • Employment Type: Travel We’re hiring an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist for a local hospital in Grand Rapids, MI where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders. \n \n Minimum Requirements: \n • Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program., • Current Michigan state respiratory therapist license in good standing., • One year experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in an acute care or hospital setting., • BLS certification required., • Experience with mechanical ventilators, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, oxygen delivery systems, and aerosol/nebulizer devices., • Competence in airway management including tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion/removal, and suctioning techniques., • Ability to perform arterial blood gas sampling and interpret results, oximetry and capnography monitoring, and 12-lead ECG acquisition with basic arrhythmia recognition., • Familiarity with pulmonary function testing (e.g., NIF, VC) and assisting with bronchoscopic and chest tube procedures., • Ability to perform chest physiotherapy and manage chest drainage devices where applicable., • ACL S preferred. The area supports car and public transit commuting via The Rapid bus system and regional connections to West Michigan cities. \n \n Standard Job Description: \n Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Responsibilities include explaining purposes and procedures to patients and providing education upon discharge. The role conducts physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. Tasks include chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, routine review of chest x-rays, 12-lead ECG acquisition and basic arrhythmia recognition, and pulmonary function testing per policy. The therapist assists with bronchoscopies, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placements, and manages chest drainage devices when applicable. Tracheostomy care, arterial puncture for blood gas analysis, and mechanical ventilator setup, monitoring, and maintenance are required. The role supports equipment preventative maintenance, documents treatments and patient responses, communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians, performs handoff communication during rounds, maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging, and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
