Job DescriptionSaw Operator / General Labor Job Description This role combines warehouse work with saw operation and general labor in a busy steel facility. You will train on first shift and then move to either second or third shift, operating multiple saws, handling steel materials, and supporting daily production and inventory activities. The position requires strong reliability, accurate measuring skills, and a willingness to work in a physically demanding, industrial environment. Responsibilities • Operate up to four saws at the same time to cut alloy and carbon materials ranging from 1/2 inch to 6 inches thick., • Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts and correct dimensions., • Use a chain sling, overhead crane, and magnets to safely move materials throughout the shop., • Perform general labor tasks in the warehouse, including loading and unloading materials as needed., • Check and maintain inventory levels, ensuring materials are properly labeled, stored, and accounted for., • Follow all safety procedures when operating machinery and handling heavy materials., • Train on first shift (5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) before transitioning to second or third shift, with flexibility if training must occur on another shift., • Maintain consistent attendance by showing up every day, on time, and ready to work., • Work as a team player, supporting coworkers and contributing to a positive and productive work environment., • Stay willing to perform physically demanding tasks and get dirty while maintaining focus on quality and safety. Essential Skills • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately to measure materials., • Experience or strong aptitude in general labor and machine operation in an industrial or warehouse setting., • Willingness and ability to operate saws and other machinery after training., • Comfort using an overhead crane, chain sling, and magnets to move heavy materials (or willingness to learn)., • Strong reliability, including consistent on-time attendance and a desire to work., • Ability to work second shift (3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday) or third shift (7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday) after training., • Readiness to wear lace-up steel-toe footwear (no slip-on shoes) and comply with safety requirements., • Physical ability to work in a dirty, dark, and damp steel facility and perform manual tasks for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous saw operating experience in a manufacturing or steel environment., • Background in steel, recycling, or other heavy-duty industrial work., • Material handling experience, including operating hi-lo or similar equipment., • Willingness to train on first shift (5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), with flexibility for extended training periods if needed., • Interest in working optional Saturday shifts when available. Training typically occurs on first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., after which you will move to either second shift (3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday) or third shift (7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday). Optional Saturday work may be available. You will work with equipment such as bandsaws, overhead cranes, chain slings, magnets, and other material-handling tools. Lace-up steel-toe footwear is required, and slip-on shoes are not permitted, reflecting the emphasis on safety in this industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grandville, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
