Job DescriptionJob Title: 2nd Shift Machine Operator – Omax Waterjet & Atom Flashcut Job Description The 2nd shift Machine Operator will set up and run an Omax Waterjet and an Atom Flashcut knife machine to produce precision parts for a high-volume manufacturing operation. This is a high-visibility, high-throughput role that works closely with multiple levels of the organization. The position is ideal for a driven, mechanically inclined professional who wants to grow and take on greater responsibility over time. Standard hours are 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, offering a four-day work week with 10-hour shifts and a three-day weekend. Responsibilities • Operate an Atom Flashcut knife machine and an Omax Waterjet to produce customer parts to specification., • Run both machines simultaneously when required to meet production schedules and customer demand., • Set up tooling, blades, and punches as needed for each job to ensure accurate and efficient cutting., • Configure machine cutting heads, pressures, and related parameters to achieve high-quality, consistent parts., • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts by hand, following safe material-handling practices., • Use blueprints and work instructions to verify dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements., • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and other basic measuring tools to confirm they meet quality standards., • Adjust machine settings and troubleshoot minor issues to maintain throughput and reduce downtime., • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately to complete jobs in the correct sequence and priority., • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures while operating machinery and forklifts., • Perform other machine operation tasks and assist with production activities as directed by supervision.Essential Skills, • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with production machinery., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine part dimensions, tolerances, and features., • Self-starter mentality with the ability to identify and solve problems on the production floor., • Solid math skills, including working with both metric and standard (imperial) measurements., • Ability to read and use basic measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers., • Capability to operate a forklift safely for material handling., • 2–5 years of machine operation experience in a manufacturing or similar environment., • Ability to speak, read, and write English to understand work instructions and communicate with the team., • Consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality., • Ability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs independently and perform team lifts for loads over 50 lbs., • Strong attention to detail to ensure parts meet quality and specification requirements., • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • High school diploma or GED., • Previous experience operating an Omax Waterjet and/or Atom Flashcut machine is strongly preferred., • Experience with waterjet machines and Flashcut CNC equipment., • Comfort using metric scales, tape measures, and other basic shop measurement tools., • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a plus., • Experience working with precision parts such as gaskets, seals, washers, shims, and similar components is beneficial.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a well-lit, clean shop environment within a manufacturing facility that produces custom gaskets, seals, washers, insulators, shims, protective covers, and other precision components from synthetic materials and thin-gauge metals. The facility operates multiple shifts, with this position on 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, providing a four-day work week and three-day weekend. The shop is not fully temperature controlled, but fans operate during the warmer months to improve comfort. Work involves regular use of Omax Waterjet and Atom Flashcut machines, forklifts, and standard measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, metric scales, and tape measures. Employees are expected to follow all safety protocols and maintain a neat, orderly workspace appropriate for a production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
