Job Description Job Title: MIG Welder / Fabricator Job Description This role focuses on fabricating and welding a wide variety of sheet metal and structural steel products, including guards, chutes, covers, conveyors, tanks, frames, and flumes. You will work with materials ranging from 14 gauge through 1/4" carbon steel plate and stainless steel, using MIG welding techniques and blueprint reading skills to produce high-quality finished parts. Responsibilities • Operate MIG welding machines and regulate current, voltage, gas flow, and pressure to achieve proper fusion of metals., • Weld on materials ranging from 14 gauge through 1/4" carbon steel and stainless steel, ensuring strong and clean welds., • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, layouts, sketches, samples, prototypes, and verbal instructions to understand product requirements., • Select appropriate materials and gauge of metal based on job specifications and engineering documentation., • Fit and fabricate components to assemble guards, chutes, covers, conveyors, tanks, frames, flumes, and other sheet metal and structural steel products., • Use various hand tools and power tools to finish products, including grinders and sanders., • Grind out slag, burrs, and sharp edges using portable grinders or sanders to achieve smooth and safe finishes., • Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and completeness, and clearly mark part numbers on completed components., • Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure parts meet specifications., • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move parts, materials, and assemblies as needed., • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines., • Proficiency in MIG welding on 14 gauge through 1/4" carbon steel and stainless steel., • Strong blueprint reading skills to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and sketches., • Ability to set up and operate MIG welding machines, including regulating current, voltage, gas flow, and pressure., • Experience with fitting and fabrication of sheet metal and structural steel components., • Skilled in using tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions accurately., • Ability to use grinders, sanders, and other hand and power tools to finish welded products., • Capability to inspect parts for quality and accurately mark part numbers on finished components., • Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move parts and materials., • Knowledge of working with both carbon steel and stainless steel materials., • Experience fabricating a wide variety of products such as guards, chutes, covers, conveyors, tanks, frames, and flumes., • Comfort working from samples, prototypes, and verbal instructions in addition to formal drawings., • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production needs, including occasional extended hours or Saturday work., • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and correct issues during fitting, welding, and finishing. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Loves Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
