Job Description Job Title: Welder – Custom Metal Fabrication Job Description This role focuses on custom metal fabrication and welding for a wide variety of residential and commercial projects, including staircases, railings, gates, fireplaces, kitchen hoods, and custom countertops. You will work in a specialized metal shop performing multiple welding processes, fabricating from different metals, and occasionally traveling to job sites to support installation and project needs. Responsibilities • Perform a wide range of welding processes, with a primary focus on MIG and TIG welding, and additional use of stick and flux welding as needed., • Fabricate custom metal products such as staircases, railings, gates, fireplaces, kitchen hoods, and countertops for both residential and commercial applications., • Work with a variety of metals, including mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, carbon steel, sheet metal, and copper., • Operate fabrication equipment such as brake presses, shears, plasma cutters, rollers, and other shop tools to form, cut, and assemble metal components., • Perform assembly of fabricated parts, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and structural integrity., • Use brazing and soldering techniques when required for specific projects or materials., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to determine measurements, materials, and fabrication methods., • Accurately read and use tape measures and other measuring tools to cut and fabricate materials to precise dimensions., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety practices and proper handling of tools and equipment., • Drive to and from job sites as needed, representing the company professionally and ensuring safe operation of company vehicles., • Collaborate with a small team of fabricators and welders to complete custom projects efficiently and to high-quality standards., • At least 2 years of TIG welding experience in a fabrication or similar environment., • At least 2 years of MIG welding experience in a fabrication or similar environment., • Minimum of 2 years of metal fabrication experience., • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, stick, and flux welding processes, with emphasis on MIG and TIG., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Strong fabrication skills, including cutting, forming, and assembling metal components., • Ability to work confidently with mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, carbon steel, sheet metal, and copper., • Ability to accurately read and use tape measures and other measuring tools., • Clean driving record, enabling safe and reliable travel to and from job sites., • Hands-on experience operating brake presses, shears, plasma cutters, and rollers., • Experience with brazing and soldering in a metal fabrication setting., • Experience in custom metal work for residential and commercial projects, such as staircases, railings, and architectural features., • Ability to work independently on custom projects while also collaborating effectively within a small team., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, aesthetically pleasing finished products. Work Environment You will work in a smaller, close-knit shop of about 15 people, located a short drive from a major beltline and set on a beautiful lot of land. The facility features large airport hangar doors that provide excellent air flow and a comfortable, open feel. The shop is fairly clean and organized, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe and efficient work area. The typical schedule alternates between Monday through Thursday one week and Tuesday through Friday the next, with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime is entirely optional, with the opportunity to work up to 10 extra hours per week, and most team members choosing 2 to 5 hours, with no weekend shifts. You will use a variety of welding and fabrication equipment daily, including MIG and TIG welders, brake presses, shears, plasma cutters, rollers, and measuring tools, in an environment that supports focus, craftsmanship, and collaboration. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of MADISON, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
