OCS Technical Services is looking for a Principal HV Electrical Engineer to lead and deliver electrical design activities across renewable energy, power infrastructure, industrial and utility projects throughout the UK. Based at our Hyde office, you’ll support Independent Connection Provider (ICP) projects for Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) and private clients, alongside electrical infrastructure and plant installations. You’ll combine hands‑on design work with technical leadership, supporting projects from development through to delivery. Working closely with clients, delivery teams, DNOs, IDNOs, suppliers and other stakeholders, you’ll provide technical proposals, design guidance and engineering support. Lead and contribute to electrical design, power studies, technical proposals and project support. Design HV, MV and LV distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, relay panels and substation plant. Produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD, including single‑line diagrams, schematics, key‑line and block diagrams, termination diagrams and equipment layouts. Develop substation and switchroom layouts, cable routes, earthing designs and building LV services. Prepare technical specifications and equipment schedules for switchgear, transformers and protection schemes, including protection relay schedules. Design earthing systems for MV substations, cable networks and LV installations. Prepare technical content for contractor proposal packages. Review manufacturers’ proposals and drawings against project specifications. Manage technical communication and interfaces with clients, network operators, suppliers and internal delivery teams. Manage multiple projects at different stages of development and delivery. Support and mentor junior engineering colleagues. Chartered Electrical Engineer status, or actively working towards chartership. Strong experience designing electrical distribution, switchgear and substation systems across HV, MV and LV applications. Experience within renewable energy, industrial or utility projects, including solar, wind or battery energy storage systems. Good knowledge of relevant British and IEC standards and DNO G81 requirements for projects at 11kV, 33kV and 132kV. Proficiency in AutoCAD and the production of detailed electrical drawings. Experience preparing equipment specifications, protection scheme documentation and earthing designs. Strong communication skills and confidence managing technical discussions with project stakeholders. The ability to manage competing project priorities and mentor junior staff. Willingness to travel occasionally to meetings and project sites across the UK. Experience using IPSA and/or ETAP to undertake load‑flow, fault‑level, protection coordination, G5/5 and voltage stability studies, including preparation of study reports and schedules. This is a customer-facing delivery role with a strong technical bias. You'll manage an asset through the full onboarding journey, from initial discovery and technical analysis, through site design and gateway installation, to commissioning, testing and handover into live service. You’ll sit at the intersection of our customers, Electrical Engineering, Product and Customer Success Engineering teams. You’ll need to understand both the connectivity and control architecture of our customers' assets and how those assets connect to and operate through the KrakenFlex SaaS platform. You won't be expected to design the details of the integration solution or write the software yourself. Instead, you'll need enough technical depth across both areas to understand how they fit together, identify gaps and risks, challenge incomplete information and drive the right conversations to get a site successfully integrated. Your role is to bring together three perspectives throughout onboarding: Customer: What is the customer trying to achieve, and what do we need from them? Product: How will the asset operate within KrakenFlex, and what product capabilities and configuration are required? Engineering: How does the physical asset need to be integrated, connected and commissioned to make that solution work? Your job is to make sure those three come together as one successfully delivered customer solution. Work closely with Product and Software Engineering teams to understand the relevant GenFlex capabilities, product modules, configuration requirements and technical constraints for each customer and asset. The types of work delivered within the Power Systems team currently include: • Steady studies such as load flow, fault level and reactive compensation;, • Dynamic studies such as frequency and voltage stability;, • Harmonic analysis/ power quality/ filter design;, • Transient overvoltage and insultation coordination simulation studies (switching/lightning);, • Control interaction studies;, • Earthing studies;, • Protection coordination and Arc Flash studies; and, • Grid connection support to onshore and offshore developers., • Delivering consulting work related to the various types of power systems studies and analysis, in particular control interaction studies., • Providing technical and project management leadership to support the project team in the successful delivery of consulting work., • Ensuring technical quality of delivery of power systems projects, reports and proposals., • Building and maintaining key client relationships to effectively position power systems services and secure future business., • Leading the development and delivery of project proposals and identifying areas where services/skill sets can be integrated through multi-disciplinary working., • Lead on excellence in power systems software packages (e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, IPSA, CDEGs, etc.)., • A Degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialisation., • Experience in power systems consulting., • A network of industry contacts and clients., • Proactive and highly motivated to meet customer requirements., • Focus on quality, ensuring excellence of deliverables for both project reports and proposals and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often working on multiple projects / proposals at any one time.
