Mapped Recruitment is delighted to be working with two entrepreneurial business founders on their search for a Head of Finance/Finance Manager to join their team and support across their business ventures as their teams and business continue to grow. \n This role is perfect for newly qualified accountants who are based in or commutable to the South West Essex area (flexible working), looking for their next role within a growth SME environment (circa £3M TO), working alongside a social, fun and dynamic team and happy to get involved with a breadth of duties using Xero. \n Perfect for a chartered accountant looking to move out of practice or a Finance Manager in an SME environment looking to work in a more creative, founder-led business. \n Key Responsibilities: \n\n • Reporting into the business Founders, supervising one Finance Assistant\n, • Produce timely, accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.\n, • Lead the budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management processes.\n, • Provide commercial financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.\n, • Monitor business performance, profitability and margins, identifying opportunities for improvement.\n, • Ensure appropriate financial controls and internal processes are maintained.\n, • Oversee VAT returns, statutory compliance and liaison with external accountants where required.\n, • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems and reporting processes.\n, • Line manage, support and develop the Finance Assistant and oversee the transactional finance work on Xero\n, • Provide technical accounting oversight\n, • Review accounting work prepared by the team to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.\n, • Provide guidance and support on complex accounting matters and UK accounting standards.\n, • Act as the internal technical point of reference for the finance team.\n, • Support the review and client deliverables where appropriate.\n, • Support the review and sign-off of financial statements\n, • Maintain oversight of a small portfolio of SME clients\n, • Work alongside the Finance Assistant to ensure client work is delivered accurately and efficiently.\n, • Support the development and continuous improvement of accounting processes, systems and quality standards.\n, • Assist in mentoring and developing junior team members from a technical perspective.\n\n Essential Requirements: \n\n • Successful candidates must be ACA or ACCA-qualified (essential), ideally newly qualified to 2 years post-qualified.\n, • Experience preparing or reviewing statutory accounts and financial statements\n, • Strong technical accounting knowledge with an understanding of UK accounting standards and financial reporting requirements\n, • Good understanding of VAT, payroll, bookkeeping and SME accounting\n, • Experience reviewing financial information with excellent attention to detail.\n, • Strong Excel skills and confident working with financial data.\n, • Experience using Xero\n\n Essex area (Epping Forest district, M25 corridor). The founders and majority of the team are Essex-based, so being able to commute to this area is important; however, lots of flexibility will be offered
