Started by students and graduates of Oxford University (hence the OK in our name - Oxford Kilburn) The OK Club has been providing activities for children and young people for the past 60 years and we have exciting plans for our next phase of development. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle. James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it. James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 5,100 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need. In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands. THE OPPORTUNITY We are recruiting Senior Suicide Prevention Therapists to deliver our clinically proven, life-saving intervention at our James’ Place centre in London. As a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will work closely with the Head of Centre to provide strong clinical leadership and oversight while also delivering direct therapeutic work with men experiencing suicidal crisis and their supporter(s). You will play a key role in supporting the clinical team to deliver our unique intervention and to co-produce effective, individualised safety plans to help men remain safe. You will work closely with the Head of Centre in London and the wider James’ Place leadership team to ensure strong integration between the pilot service and our established centres. This role requires an experienced mental health professional or therapist with a strong background in suicide prevention, excellent risk assessment and formulation skills, and demonstrable experience of clinical supervision, line management, and leadership. Training, induction, and ongoing support will be provided by the Head of Centre in London and the wider James’ Place team. The CAMHS clinics are based at Liberte House, St Helier which is in main central parish. In-patient Provision There is no designated inpatient provision on island but the team provide flexible intensive packages of care for children and young people with severe or complex mental health difficulties. The packages of care can be provided both for assessment and treatment working jointly with other services including Paediatrics, Adult Mental Health and Children’s Services (Social Care). Both the paediatric ward (Robin Ward) and acute adult mental health ward (Orchard Ward) are used for young people who require admission to hospital. Robin Ward will admit young people up to their 17th birthday. The postholder will be clinically responsible for young people admitted to Robin Ward and Orchard Ward under their care and will be expected to undertake reviews of these patients. All those under 16, and most under 18 admitted to Orchard Ward are cared for separately to the other in-patients if possible or are under continuous observation for safeguarding reasons. When necessary young people can be transferred to the UK for inpatient treatment. However the postholder will be required to attend training to become an Approved Practitioner under the Mental Health (Jersey) Law 2016. Population and CAMHS Caseload • The population of Jersey at the end of 2024 was estimated to be 104,540 with approximately 22,910 under the age of 19., • The current number of cases open to CAMHS is 1885 end of 2025., • The total number of new referrals received in 2025 was 906, • The current postholder’s (locum) caseload is approximately 90. Most of the cases on the caseload will have an allocated care co-ordinator but there may be some exceptions to this. Most new assessments are undertaken by other members of the MDT, but some will require initial medical assessment. There are no fixed requirements for new assessments and follow up appointments. On average there maybe 1-2 new assessments per week and 15-20 follow up appointments, depending on the complexity of the cases and other commitments., • The postholder will be required to participate in the daytime (9am – 5pm) medical on call rota for 1-2 days per week. The initial duty response (including hospital liaison assessments) is made by the duty worker who will contact the doctor on call if required. With an expansion of our crisis services to cover the out of hours period there may be a requirement to provide medical cover for this in the future. Annual leave, Study leave and Job Plan • Consultants are entitled to 30 days of annual leave increasing to 32 days after 7 years’ service (at Consultant level) plus bank holidays., • Study leave for the purpose of professional development should be applied for through the Clinical Lead and is approved by the Director of Medical Education. There is a generous study leave budget and there is an entitlement of 30 days every 3 years., • All consultants have a 10 PA contract for public work, which is non-negotiable. The final job plan will vary according to the successful appointees and be agreed by the Clinical Lead and Chief of Service and ratified by the Group Medical Director. The post holder’s job plan will be reviewed annually and will be appraised according to the current guidance., • All timetables will adhere to current Royal College Guidelines, namely:- 7.5 clinical programmed activities (PAs) 1.5 - 2.5 supporting professional activities (SPAs) consisting of: • 1 SPA for clinical learning and preparation for appraisal (including audit, weekly teaching sessions, case presentations, mortality reviews etc), • 1 SPA for managerial activities, service development and quality improvement (subject to agreement), • 0.5 SPA for other SPA activities tba Some SPAs will be annualised rather than represented in the weekly timetable.
