Financial Controller Location | Northampton (Hybrid 1-2 days a week in office) Renumeration | £80,000 NBU14816 We are partnering with an owner-managed logistics business (c.£30m revenue) entering a key growth phase and preparing for a funding round. With a lean finance team (only CFO) and increasing operational complexity, the business is focused on strengthening its financial foundations, tightening controls, and elevating reporting ahead of investor scrutiny. The Role: Reporting to a highly experienced PE-backed CFO, this hands-on Finance Manager role will own all day-to-day finance activity while driving the professionalisation of processes, systems, and reporting. You will lead month-end, year-end and audit preparation, support a SAGE implementation, and act as the CFO’s right hand across both BAU and project work. The position demands a proactive, personable operator who can partner with operational teams across the logistics network and deliver accurate, timely financial insight in a fast-moving environment. Key Responsibilities: • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate management accounts and reconciliations., • Own audit preparation and manage all external audit interactions, resolving historic issues and ensuring clean, well-supported files., • Support the implementation of SAGE, including data migration, process mapping, testing, and embedding new controls., • Deliver clear reporting and analysis across routes, contracts, margins, and operational KPIs., • Take ownership of cashflow forecasting, working capital management, and day-to-day treasury activities., • Oversee core BAU elements including payroll coordination, fleet and fuel cost controls, billing accuracy, and customer account reconciliations., • Implement stronger financial controls, documentation, and standardised processes., • Support preparation of materials for the upcoming funding round and investor due diligence., • Build strong relationships across operations and act as a trusted partner to depot and commercial leads. About You: • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)., • Strong technical grounding in month-end, year-end and audit preparation., • Experience in logistics, transport, 3PL or high-volume operational environments is highly advantageous., • Hands-on, self-starting, and comfortable working in a small-team setting., • Strong systems capability; experience with SAGE or similar ERP implementation desirable., • Commercially aware, detail-focused, and able to communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues., • Personable, adaptable, and able to build trust across the business; thrives in a role with broad responsibility.
