The Software Engineer, will be based in Whiteley but working remotely from home can be included, will be responsible for contributing to a multi discipline team in the Analysis of problems, solution work up and delivery of Software as required across a wide range of Applications. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that supports our customers current Business Application Systems in support of NATS. Applicants must have proven track record of a wide range of skills within the software domain and have a software development background, preferably in similar safety related environment must also have, or be eligible to acquire, SC clearance. The successful candidate will be responsible for the timely completion of all engineering activities related to the particular application required. They will perform the day-to-day activities and be responsible for ensuring that the engineering process has been followed to maintain compliance to software assurance standards. The successful candidate may be expected to support multiple different applications so will need to multitask to support these activities. The position requires knowledge and application of the software engineering standards, principles and best practices. The successful candidate will contribute to the engineering activities throughout the release life cycle, from kick off through to operational deployment as required. Typical Duties: • Investigation into potential problems in the various systems, • Develop software requirements, • Contribute to architecture and design baselines, • Develop software solutions/recommendations and implement these, • Change and release management, • Technical risk and opportunity management, • liaise with other disciplines (i.e Systems Engineering and Formal Test) as well as management and Team Leadership, • Creation of Software test plans and test execution, • Develop White Papers, • Change and release management, • Adherence to all relevant Software Standards required Required Skills: • Proven track record in developing Software solutions using 1st (1GL) through 3rd (3GL) generation languages (e.g. ADA 83/95, C, C++), • Proven Experience using the Waterfall and V model Development, • Proven experience delivering solutions on of Linux type operating systems, • Experience of using development environments related to 1GL through 3GL generation Languages, • Experience of systems engineering, software development, integration and test, • Experience of the complete project life cycle from bid through to operational delivery, • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide clear technical direction, • Ability to work cross-functionally and Collaborate with other Stakeholders, • Excellent verbal and written communication through the use of e-mail, presentations and reports, • Ability to build effective working relationships with the team, internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, • Strong time management and organisational skills Desired Skills: • Experience of Other Software Development Techniques like Agile development (e.g. Scrum), • Experience of delivering real-time and/or safety-related software, • Knowledge of modelling languages (e.g. SysML, UML), • Knowledge of procedural and object orientated software development languages (e.g. C, C++ & Java), • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python), • Knowledge of COTS integration technologies (e.g. Apache Camel, Apache Kafka) Experience of Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence), • Knowledge of configuration management within an software engineering environment What we do for you: At Leidos we are PASSIONATE about customer success, UNITED as a team and INSPIRED to make a difference. Description Join our UK Team who are committed to a Mission! Systems Engineer The successful candidate will have a full understanding of the principles of systems engineering, will have prior experience as a Systems Engineer on a major programme involving accepting and integrating deliveries from suppliers. Using their experience in Systems Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with customers and suppliers to execute Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle, with specific focus on Model Based Systems Engineering. Specific duties may include: Technical and/or team leading of significant portion of engineering activity of assigned programme Defining and leading the engineering life cycle and ensure that all Engineering tasks in the defined scope of work are delivered appropriately. • Working with operational stakeholders, technology suppliers and architects to define system of system level requirements, • Allocation of requirements to lower level services, conducting technical derivation analysis as required, • Modelling of functional requirements and scenarios inside of MBSE and architectural framework approaches, • Capturing of non-functional requirements within DOORS, • Managing compliance assessments at systems of systems, system and lower level systems & services levels, • Overseeing development of lower level designs corresponding to owned areas of the system, • Producing detailed engineering artefacts such as:, • Detailed Designs, • Failure modes analysis, • Service Management Designs, • Designs for onboarding service applications onto virtualized infrastructures, • Compliance Reports, • Security, HF and Safety artefacts, • Capacity and Throughput analysis, • Delivering milestone technical reviews and the associated work product deliverables, • Defining architectural solutions comprising multiple underpinning COTS and bespoke designs and driving the competitive selection of these technologies, • Creation of on-boarding designs, • Definition of user interfaces, • Modelling operational, business and system behaviours within architectural views, • Conducting cost/benefit/technical trade studies Required Skills: • Strong experience with architecture modelling tools (e.g. Sparx Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw Cameo), • Strong experience with Architecture Modelling Frameworks and Languages (e.g. TOGAF, MODAF, NAF, SysML, Archimate), • Success in working within large-scale, mission critical and complex integration programmes, • Ability to work with a number of stakeholders and suppliers, working across organizational boundaries as appropriate, • Experience of developing system behavioural diagrams, modelling interfaces and developing models to encapsulate functional requirements, • Demonstrable successes within the System Engineering environment, • Excellent customer facing skills, including being able to ingest large volumes of requirements and information developing clear understanding of customer hot-buttons and needs, • Demonstrable knowledge and cognisance of adjacent disciplines, including programme management, customer relationship management, supplier management and service management, • In-depth experience of conducting detailed systems engineering trade solutions to assess options & feasibility, and define optimal solutions, • Strong knowledge of requirements and user scenario development in both text based and model based approaches, • Understanding designing / delivering systems in a Virtualised Environment, • Experience of working with Service Oriented Architectures Desired Skills: • ITIL including Service Management Roles & Processes, • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management or other safety related systems, • Demonstrable commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices, • Experience of service management, assurance and regulation requirements and how they apply across functional boundaries, • Willingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approaches, • Ability to deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentation What do we do for you?
