Based at our purpose-built Cardiff facility, we provide a wide range of engineering services including vehicle overhauls, heavy maintenance, component repairs and system upgrades. Our site is supported by specialist plant, equipment and infrastructure which enables us to deliver high-quality solutions for our rail customers. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Facilities team. This is an important role responsible for ensuring our site equipment, plant and infrastructure remain safe, reliable and fully operational to support our engineering activities. Applicants should have a strong facilities maintenance or mechanical and electrical engineering background, ideally gained within rail, manufacturing, heavy engineering or another industrial environment. Candidates must have experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding and repairs across a range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. About the role As a Mechanical and Electrical Technician, you will support the safe and efficient operation of our depot facilities by carrying out preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and compliance activities across site plant, machinery and building services. You will play a key role in maintaining the reliability of our facilities and supporting production and overhaul operations by ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant and fit for purpose. You will work closely with engineering teams, contractors and the wider business to maintain high standards of safety, quality and operational performance. Key responsibilities • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across depot facilities, plant and equipment, • Complete reactive maintenance activities and respond to equipment breakdowns, • Diagnose faults and complete repairs across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems • Maintain workshop plant including lifting equipment, compressors, extraction systems and other depot equipment • Carry out routine inspections, testing and checks to support statutory compliance requirements, • Support fire safety, water hygiene and facilities compliance activities across the site, • Manage contractor visits including reviewing RAMS, monitoring works and completing post-work inspections • Ensure equipment, machinery and facilities remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose, • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports and asset histories, • Work safely in line with electrical isolation procedures, permit-to-work systems and depot safety processes • Support continuous improvement activities to improve equipment reliability and site efficiency, • Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and service providers About you We are looking for someone who has: • Experience working as a Mechanical & Electrical Technician, Facilities Technician, Maintenance Engineer or similar role • Experience within rail, manufacturing, heavy engineering or another industrial environment, • Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, • Experience fault finding, maintaining and repairing industrial equipment, • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and maintenance documentation, • Experience using maintenance tools, equipment and computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) • Knowledge of facilities compliance requirements including fire systems, water hygiene, HVAC and statutory inspections • Good understanding of health, safety and quality management systems, • Excellent communication skills with a proactive and flexible approach, • A commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship and safety Desirable experience: • A completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance Engineering or a relevant discipline, • Knowledge of SFG20 maintenance standards, • Experience working with LOLER, PUWER, Legionella, asbestos awareness or similar compliance requirements, • Experience working within a rail depot environment Next steps Does this role sound like the opportunity you are looking for?
