Overview\n\nThe Operations Manager will lead the day-to-day delivery of traffic management operations, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry standards and client requirements.\n\nThis is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating people, resources, planning, and performance across operational activities. The successful candidate will play a central part in driving service excellence, maintaining compliance, and supporting the continued growth and profitability of the business.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Lead the daily management of traffic management operations, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.\n\n * Plan and coordinate works in line with client requirements, permits, and programme deadlines.\n\n * Monitor operational performance, including KPIs, job completion, and resource utilisation, and drive improvements where needed.\n\n * Manage traffic management crews, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure effective service delivery.\n\n * Ensure all operatives hold the required qualifications and certifications, including NRSWA, 12AB, and 12D M1–M6 where applicable.\n\n * Plan rotas, shifts, and on-call cover, while monitoring working hours, fatigue, and rest periods in line with legislation.\n\n * Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of operational staff.\n\n * Carry out performance management and address underperformance where necessary.\n\n * Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, Chapter 8, the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice, and permit scheme requirements.\n\n * Review and approve RAMS, investigate incidents, near misses, and complaints, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.\n\n * Support budget management, job profitability, cost control, and efficient use of labour, plant, materials, and equipment.\n\n * Liaise with clients, local authorities, and internal teams to coordinate works, maintain strong service levels, and ensure accurate submission of permits and documentation.\n\nQualifications\n\n * Proven experience in traffic management operations or a similar field-based operations leadership role.\n\n * Strong knowledge of Chapter 8, NRSWA, and 12AB / 12D requirements.\n\n * Experience with street works permitting systems and local authority processes.\n\n * Demonstrable experience managing teams, rotas, and operational logistics.\n\n * Strong health and safety knowledge with a clear commitment to compliance.\n\n * Commercial awareness with the ability to manage resources and control costs effectively.\n\n * Excellent organisation, communication, and leadership skills.\n\n * Ability to work in a fast-paced, reactive environment and manage multiple priorities.\n\nBenefits\n\n * Competitive salary, commensurate with experience\n\n * Opportunity to lead and shape operational performance\n\n * Supportive leadership team and collaborative working environment\n\n * Long-term career development with genuine progression opportunities into Director-level roles\n\nApply now to join a high-performing team and make a real impact in a key operational leadership role
