Salary: £31,500 per annum Conditions: Permanent position Hours: 40 hours per week, inclusive of paid breaks, worked across a flexible rota split between working at the bar and in the office. Purpose of the role The Bar Supervisor plays a key role in delivering an excellent food and beverage operation at Brixton House, supporting both the organisations commercial objectives and its commitment to warm, inclusive audience experiences. Working closely with the Senior Food & Beverage Manager, the postholder ensures the day-to-day running of the bar is efficient, well-managed and welcoming, particularly during busy performances and events. The role balances hands-on operational leadership with commercial awareness, helping to drive bar sales, maintain high service standards, and ensure compliance with health, safety and licensing requirements. As a visible presence for staff and audiences alike, the Bar Supervisor contributes to a positive workplace culture and helps position the bar as an integral part of the Brixton House experience and a vital income-generating function of the organisation. Sales Drive monthly Bar sales targets. Suggest new menu items and special offers. Keep bar signage up to date. Monitor supplier price changes and flag pricing implications to the Senior Food & Beverage Manager. Support content capture and promotion of bar offer at key events, working with Marketing and Commercial teams as required. Resolve customer complaints where possible, escalating when necessary. Stock Management Place stock orders in line with agreed schedules and operational needs. Maintain a tidy stock room in the basement. Log in deliveries, sales, wastage on the POS system. Staff Support the induction and ongoing development of bar staff, following agreed training plans. Support staff rota cover and communication during the absence of the Senior Food & Beverage Manager, in line with agreed rotas. Report any absences/lateness to the Venue Duty Manager. Report any misconduct to the Senior F&B Manager. Provide regular constructive feedback to staff to ensure high service standards. Act as Duty Bar Manager during events (Press Nights, Large Events), taking responsibility for bar operations and appropriate escalation as required. Compliance and Safety Maintain health & safety, food safety standards, hygiene, and sustainability across the F&B operation. Ensure incident reporting is accurate and consistent across the bar team. Follow policies and procedures ensuring the standard operating procedures are always followed and adhered to. Maintenance Report equipment issues through agreed internal reporting processes, including the Senior Food & Beverage Manager and Operations team as appropriate. Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure maintenance of the equipment (Beer lines, Ice Machine, Fridges, Glasswasher). Develop and enforce a weekly cleaning rota and a monthly deep clean rota. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential: Significant proven experience in bar and/or F&B management, ideally in a cultural or hospitality setting. Experience working in high-volume, fast-paced service environments. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings. Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure. Experience working with money including cashing up. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments. Working knowledge of Health & Safety and food safety requirements relevant to a licensed bar environment. Confidence using POS systems, stock tools and basic digital platforms. Desirable: Experience of work in a theatre, arts centre, music venue or similar building. Experience liaising with suppliers and contributing to partnership or promotional activity. Familiarity with community-focused or independent hospitality models. Knowledge of local and London-wide food and drink trends. Basic Terms & Conditions Place of work will primarily be Brixton House, 385 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, London SW9 8GL. The standard working days are Monday to Sunday, including out of social hours shifts.
