SCADA & Communications Engineer (EPC – HV Substation & BESS Projects) \n \n Location: Glasgow \n Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent \n Reports to: Lead Electrical Engineer / Engineering Manager \n \n This is a key technical position ensuring our energy infrastructure achieves safe, reliable, and cyber-secure control and data connectivity between site assets, substations, and remote monitoring centres. \n \n You’ll collaborate closely with electrical, protection, and commissioning teams across all project stages - from concept and detailed design through to FAT, SAT, and final handover. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n\n • Design and develop SCADA and communication architectures for HV substations and BESS installations (11–400 kV).\n, • Specify, configure, and integrate RTUs, PLCs, HMI systems, and network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls).\n, • Develop SCADA I/O schedules, communication diagrams, and interface control documents (ICDs).\n, • Define and implement communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-101/104, DNP3, Modbus TCP/RTU, etc.).\n, • Ensure robust and compliant data, control, and telemetry links between site assets, DNO/TO control centres, and client systems.\n, • Support FAT/SAT, testing, and commissioning of SCADA and communication systems.\n, • Liaise with DNOs, TOs, and NGESO for telemetry, RTU configuration, and interface acceptance.\n, • Ensure designs comply with National Grid, DNO, and ENA standards, and meet cybersecurity and IT/OT network security requirements.\n, • Work closely with Protection & Controls, Electrical Design, and Commissioning teams.\n, • Manage all technical documentation and workflows via Procore or equivalent platforms.\n, • Apply knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and other key HSE legislation.\n\n \n \n Qualifications & Experience \n Essential: \n\n • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Control, or Communications Engineering.\n, • Proven experience designing or delivering SCADA and communications systems in HV substations, grid connections, or BESS projects.\n, • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and control architectures.\n, • Hands-on experience with RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, and network devices from major OEMs (e.g. Siemens, Schneider, GE, SEL, Emerson).\n, • Familiarity with network configuration (VLANs, routing, VPNs, firewalls).\n, • Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC 60870, and DNP3 standards.\n, • EPC or design-and-build delivery experience.\n, • Experience integrating BESS Controllers, Inverters, Transformers, and Auxiliaries within SCADA systems — including coordination of data exchanges between SCADA–PPC, SCADA–EMS, and SCADA–DNO/IDNO interfaces.\n\n \n Desirable: \n\n • Understanding of grid code compliance, telemetry, and DNO/NGESO interface requirements.\n, • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (ISO 27001, NCSC CAF, etc.) for OT systems.\n, • Experience with Procore, BIM 360, or other digital collaboration tools.\n, • Chartered Engineer or working toward professional registration (IET or equivalent).\n\n \n What We Offer \n\n • Competitive salary and benefits package.\n, • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable and grid-scale energy projects across the UK.\n, • Exposure to EPC project delivery from design to commissioning.\n, • Support for professional development, training, and chartership.\n, • A collaborative, innovative, and growth-focused working environment.\n\n
