Senior Mechanical Engineer We are recruiting on behalf of a leading independent electrical engineering organisation that delivers specialist engineering solutions across the UK and internationally. Operating across sectors including power generation, renewables, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, rail, marine, and defence, the business supports clients with the design, maintenance, repair, upgrade, and installation of critical electrical assets and rotating machinery. With a strong engineering heritage and continued investment in renewable energy technologies, the organisation is playing a key role in the development and support of large-scale Hydro Generators and other sustainable power solutions. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering Department, providing expertise in the design, manufacture, and repair of complex machinery. The role will support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects, with a strong focus on advancing the organisation’s growth in renewable energy, particularly through the development of large Hydro Generators. Key Responsibilities • Lead the mechanical design of machinery, including stators, rotors, assemblies, upgrades, and retrofit projects, • Provide engineering leadership across all project phases, working closely with clients and stakeholders, • Use simulation and modelling tools to validate performance and compliance with requirements, • Oversee and participate in testing activities, both in-factory and on-site, • Carry out diagnostics, condition analysis, and life-cycle evaluations, producing clear technical reports, • Deliver service and maintenance support to ensure reliability and long-term asset performance, • Partner with tendering and project management teams on bids, proposals, and execution, • Develop and implement test methodologies for dynamic machinery testing, analysing performance data, • Perform root cause analysis on machinery failures and recommend corrective actions, • Produce repair instructions and technical documentation to guide the recovery of failed or degraded equipment Your Skills and Experience • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, • Experience in detailed design of rotating machinery such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, or similar equipment, • Strong expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and testing methodologies, • Collaborate with CAD engineers and draughtsmen to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing processes, • Proficient in diagnostics, failure analysis, and life assessment of machinery, • Knowledge of manufacturing, commissioning, and service activities for large-scale equipment, • Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach, • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers Benefits As a valued member of the team, you’ll receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes: • Private healthcare and cashback plan, • Contributory salary sacrifice pension scheme, • Life insurance (4x salary), • Enhanced annual leave entitlement, in addition to bank holidays, • Company-funded gym subsidy payments, • Annual vision allowance, • Free 24/7 remote GP service, • Employee referral programme, • Long service recognition awards, • Paid maternity and paternity leave, • Access to EV charging points Additionally, you’ll have access to a wide range of supplementary benefits, including: • Employee Assistance Programme, • Extensive professional development through the in-house training academy, • Career-enhancing training events, • Exclusive employee discounts and concessions via the corporate perks platform
