Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The primary purpose of the Payroll & Benefits Specialist role is to provide support in the Human Resources Department of the Company. Support areas include payroll processing, maintaining benefits records and personnel records, handling workers compensation claims and related activities, and assisting in employee relations programs and activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees – i.e., full cycle payroll responsibilities including reporting to Finance function., • Maintain time and labor management records, including headcount reports., • Prepare 401(k) / Deferred Comp / HSA and other benefit reports for transmission and submission of timely contributions., • Administrative duties to support the maintenance of employee records, including new hires, terminations and personnel status updates., • Assist Human Resources Manager with collection of employee information for reporting purposes, such as government compliance, Affirmative Action, EEO-1, non-discrimination testing, form 5500 filing, annual audits, etc., • Maintain paid and unpaid time off records, including PTO, disability, FMLA leave, workers’ compensation records., • Administer disability claims (along with FMLA requests), workers’ compensation claims, complete employment verifications, maintain garnishment files, etc., • Maintain benefits files (including workers compensation) and personnel files., • Assist with new hire orientations, benefit plan open enrollments, I-9 form requirements., • Assist with Safety and First Aid requirements as needed., • Provide reports to Management and other departments as required for decision making and financial reporting., • Assist in coordination of Company sponsored employee events., • Assist employees as necessary. EXPERIENCE: Three to six years of related experience and/or training with multi-state payroll activities (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience). Experience with UKG Pro a plus. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Depending on experience, additional training classes for payroll and timekeeping programs may be required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. COMPUTER SKILLS: Advanced skills: Ability to use internet/intranet, cross-functional Enterprise Resource Planning software, the MS Office package, and other software programs and packages to their potential to provide a work product fitting to the level of the position. Must also be able to perform troubleshooting MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Intermediate Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Very High Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands.
