Engineering Manager – Empower Critical Systems and Teams We are seeking a strategic and people-focused Engineering Manager (EM) to lead high-performing teams that design, build, and deliver secure, scalable software solutions for both government and commercial customers. In this critical role, you will be responsible for driving execution, coaching engineers and team leads and ensuring that engineering outcomes align with business and technical goals. You will foster a culture of accountability, growth, and collaboration, empowering your teams to deliver with velocity and quality. Operating at the intersection of people leadership, technical strategy, and execution delivery, you will partner with Product, Program, and Architecture leaders to translate strategic vision into action. Your leadership will ensure that engineering teams are healthy, aligned, and consistently delivering value to customers. As an Engineering Manager, your leadership directly influences how teams operate, grow, and succeed. By guiding engineers, supporting delivery, and aligning execution with strategy, you will help define the future of our technical organization. Key Responsibilities Technical / Functional Leadership • Guide teams through major technical or functional decisions, ensuring alignment with long-term strategy (e.g., migrations, modernization, process improvements)., • Champion quality, operational excellence, and system sustainability., • Hire and retain diverse, high-performing talent through inclusive recruiting practices., • Provide quarterly and annual feedback to support team member growth, performance reviews, and role development., • Mentor engineers and team leaders lead in both technical execution and leadership growth., • Navigate and resolve team conflicts and foster healthy dynamics., • Uphold Bluestaq's core values of trust, ownership, curiosity, teamwork, mentorship, and talent development, fostering a culture where team members take initiative, support one another, and grow together. Execution & Delivery • Drive delivery of initiatives by partnering with product owners, product managers, program managers, or project managers to manage scope, resources, and timelines., • Support agile ceremonies (planning, standups, retrospectives) to maintain accountability and cadence., • Partner with product owners, product managers, program managers, or project managers to prioritize work, break down initiatives, and align feasibility with business goals., • Communicate progress, risks, and blockers clearly to leadership and stakeholders., • Shape technical roadmaps in partnership with program, product, and engineering team members, balancing new initiatives with sustainability and technical debt reduction., • Continuously improving engineering processes, systems, and tooling., • Make cost-conscious decisions regarding infrastructure, tools, and resourcing., • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced, agile environment., • Strong understanding of system design, functional architecture, and modern engineering practices., • Skilled at coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers at multiple levels., • Hands-on experience with agile methods, backlog planning, and delivery at scale., • Ability to build trust and alignment across product, architecture, and program teams., • Familiar with engaging stakeholders and incorporating user feedback into execution., • Ability to balance short-term delivery needs with long-term sustainability and innovation., • Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 0+ years of product or related experience, OR, • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 2+ years of engineering or related experience, OR, • Associate degree in a related field and 4+ years of engineering or related experience, OR, • Reports to: Engineering Director, Program Director, or Program Operations Director Specialization: Software Engineering • Lead teams designing and developing secure, scalable software systems for government and commercial applications., • Drive adoption of modern software engineering practices., • Oversee resolution of complex technical challenges across the software stack., • Foster engineering excellence through mentorship, technical leadership, and process improvement., • Guide the selection and implementation of tools, frameworks, and technologies aligned with mission needs., • Direct teams designing enterprise-level data models that enable interoperability, analytics, and secure data exchange., • Establish and enforce modeling standards, metadata governance, and schema traceability across platforms., • Work with product, program and engineering to ensure data models meet performance, security, and integration requirements., • Lead implementation of DevSecOps principles across software pipelines, promoting automation, velocity, and security at scale., • Champion infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and continuous delivery practices., • Integrate security controls directly into build, deploy, and release workflows., • Ensure pipelines meet compliance with DoD/IC cybersecurity frameworks without sacrificing developer efficiency., • Oversee internal IT systems, network reliability, and enterprise support., • Drive the implementation of IT systems and processes, ensuring successful operational acceptance across the organization., • Provide technical leadership to ensure that IT tools and hardware are fully optimized to support company-wide efficiency and performance., • Troubleshoot and resolve high-level IT challenges, keeping teams aligned with best practices., • Experience working in Azure and with Office 365 admin tools., • Maintain compliance with CMMC and other information technology frameworks., • Lead design, optimization, and management of mission-critical relational and non-relational databases., • Ensure data availability, scalability, and integrity across production, development, and test environments., • Define and lead test strategies across functional, regression, and performance testing domains., • Ensure test frameworks meet stringent quality standards across both commercial and government environments., • Promote test automation, shift-left strategies, and early detection., • Collaborate with software engineering to embed quality into every stage of the SDLC., • Lead teams providing continuous monitoring, operational support, and issue escalation for mission-critical systems., • Ensure system uptime, failover readiness, and rapid response protocols are in place and tested., • Build operational, support frameworks, and incident management processes., • Coordinate with engineering and cyber teams to maintain patching, configuration compliance, and audit readiness., • Lead cybersecurity operations, from real-time monitoring to strategic incident response and postmortems., • Guide security posture across cloud and on-prem systems to meet evolving DoD/IC standards., • Collaborate with engineering teams to embed secure design principles and controls early in system development., • Drive implementation of security tooling (e.g., vulnerability scanning, SIEM, endpoint protection) and best practices., • Maintain compliance with NIST, STIG, and other federal frameworks., • Apply deep expertise in access control (IAM, RBAC), encryption, logging, and monitoring., • Lead efforts to detect and mitigate threats across cloud environments and on-premises networks., • Promote security education and accountability across Bluestaq. Salary Range (CO)$90,000—$235,000 USD
