Job DescriptionLathe MachinistPay Rate - $22/hr.+ - 1st shift Job Description This role focuses on independently setting up and operating CNC lathes in a clean, climate-controlled production environment. You will work with modern CNC equipment to produce a wide variety of precision parts, making program edits as needed to ensure quality and efficiency. The position offers autonomy on the shop floor, exposure to different parts and setups, and the opportunity to grow your skills in CNC machining and programming. Responsibilities • Independently run 1–2 CNC lathes to produce precision components according to specifications and production schedules., • Set up CNC lathes from start to finish, including tooling, offsets, work holding, and part alignment., • Perform machine changeovers efficiently when switching between jobs, ensuring minimal downtime., • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances., • Make edits to CNC programs at the machine to improve part quality, cycle time, and process reliability., • Monitor machine operations and inspect parts using appropriate measuring tools to maintain quality standards., • Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust tooling or offsets, and resolve minor equipment problems to keep production running smoothly., • Work with 5-axis equipment when applicable, applying advanced machining techniques where needed., • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area., • At least 2 years of lathe machining experience in a production or job shop environment., • Proven ability to independently set up CNC lathes, including tooling, offsets, and work holding., • Ability to independently change over equipment when switching between parts or jobs., • Ability to make edits to CNC programs at the control to refine processes and address issues., • Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes, including familiarity with controls and machine operation., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Working knowledge of CNC machining concepts, including feeds, speeds, and tooling., • Basic familiarity with g-code to understand and adjust CNC programs., • Experience operating 5-axis CNC equipment., • G-code programming experience beyond simple program edits., • Experience with Okuma CNC machines or similar controls., • Exposure to machining a variety of materials and part types. You will join a highly stable, long-established organization known for never having a layoff in more than four decades of operation. The shop uses newer CNC equipment, including modern lathes and advanced machinery, and invests regularly in new machines. Uniforms are provided, contributing to a professional and consistent dress standard on the shop floor. The environment supports focused, high-quality machining work with up-to-date tools and equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
