Job DescriptionDescription: Mission: MANNA’s mission is to involve, educate, and unite people in the work of ending hunger in Western North Carolina Vision: A hunger-free Western North Carolina Position Summary: The Safety and Compliance Manager oversees all aspects of safety and compliance within the organization. This position will be responsible for understanding safety regulations, risk management principles, and creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Requirements: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Food Safety and Compliance The Safety and Compliance Manager will be responsible for implementing and maintaining rigorous food safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards, including those set forth by MANNA FoodBank, AIB International, and Feeding America. This includes ensuring proper food storage, temperature monitoring, and log verification. They will also oversee spill kit availability, stock rotation practices, and chemical storage and handling procedures. Additionally, the Manager will conduct regular food handling inspections to maintain FIFO practices and allergen management. To ensure the safety of food during transportation, the Safety Manager will monitor and verify temperature logs upon receipt of food shipments. They will also work to maintain proper storage conditions for transported food items, minimizing the risk of spoilage or contamination. Incident Reporting and Management The Safety and Compliance Manager will develop and maintain a system for documenting and tracking incidents and accidents. They will conduct thorough investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Furthermore, they will develop and implement action plans to prevent recurrence of incidents. Fleet Safety The Safety and Compliance Manager will oversee vehicle inspections and maintenance to ensure compliance with safety regulations. In collaboration with the Warehouse Manager, they will implement driver training programs to promote safe driving practices and document and track all incidents and accidents involving company vehicles. Emergency Management The Safety and Compliance Manager will manage and maintain the alarm system and security response protocols. They will develop and implement emergency communication plans for weather alerts, coordinate and conduct regular fire and evacuation drills, and work with People and Culture to organize and facilitate additional safety practices and protocols for staff. Training and Development The Safety and Compliance Manager will develop and implement comprehensive onboarding safety training for new employees, provide equipment training, including forklift operations, and manage online training programs to address various safety topics. They will also conduct food handling training to maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Warehouse Safety The Safety and Compliance Manager will conduct regular Gemba walks within the warehouse to identify potential safety hazards, operational inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. This proactive approach will help maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Additionally, the Manager will ensure that all warehouse safety protocols are strictly adhered to, including proper storage and handling of materials, emergency procedures, and regular equipment inspections. Parking Lot Management The Safety and Compliance Manager will install and maintain appropriate signage and traffic markings and educate employees on safe parking and pedestrian practices. Waste Management The Safety and Compliance Manager will oversee proper storage and labeling of waste materials, manage waste removal and disposal processes, and ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals. They will also implement ordering and PAR level procedures for chemicals and maintain up-to-date SDS sheets, providing regular training on chemical safety. Qualifications: • Education/Experience: A range of education, training, certifications and experience will be considered for this position, • This range could include a High School diploma or equivalent combined with five years of experience up to a four-year degree with three years of experience., • Fields of experience can include but are not limited to non-profit management, program management, food systems, public health or another related field, • Proof of current, valid Driver’s License, auto insurance, use of a personal vehicle and clean MVR, • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and participate in virtual meetings and conferences, • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook is required, • Maintains a professional appearance at all times and represents MANNA in diverse settings, • Must possess basic knowledge of, and commitment to, the mission of MANNA FoodBank, • Must demonstrate sensitivity and passion related to issues of poverty and hunger relief Physical Demands: The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The physical demands of this position are considered medium work. While performing job duties the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities require the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus close visual acuity to perform activities including but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading. Functions also require the ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Travel: Routine travel may be required within the service area. Current driver’s license required; copy of current auto insurance; and clean MVR required. Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary for the position is $56,778 annually. In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency or order, MANNA FoodBank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called upon to perform regular or emergent duties.
