Job Description About the KIPP Colorado Human Resources Business Partner Role: The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a critical role in advancing the Talent Team’s mission to support and retain exceptional educators and staff in service of our KIPPsters. This individual is a proactive, solutions-oriented leader who thrives at the intersection of people operations and school partnership. The HRBP builds strong, trust-based relationships with school leaders and serves as a strategic advisor on all human capital matters. As the primary HR point of contact for an assigned portfolio of schools, the HRBP delivers a full spectrum of human resources services, including payroll administration, benefits support, employee lifecycle management (onboarding through offboarding), compliance, employee relations, and performance management. In addition to providing day-to-day operational support, the HRBP partners closely with school leadership to drive talent strategies, strengthen staff culture, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities. The Human Resources Business Partner is a full-time, exempt administrative position reporting to the Director of Human Resources. Role Responsibilities and More About How You’ll Spend Your Time in this Role Professional Responsibilities ● Believe deeply in the mission, values, and Race, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (RIDE) commitments of KIPP Colorado Schools and that all children can and will learn ● Assume personal responsibility for student achievement ● Read, internalize, and adhere to the KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures manual and guidelines ● Provide an active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning (regardless of my role and its proximity to students) ● Take ownership for the development of your craft and engage actively in coaching sessions (meet 1-2 times every 1 or 2 weeks (depending on need and role) with a manager, receive coaching, implement all provided feedback, engage in active practice, etc.) ● Commit to being prepared. Such as: internalizing and preparing for lessons, preparing for O3s/coaching, preparing for meetings, coaching, PD, reading and internalizing written communication, etc. ● Meet professional obligations including and not limited to meeting deadlines and honoring schedules ● Consistently leverage existing professional tools, including but not limited to Google Suite (google documents, etc.) and Microsoft Suite (including but not limited to your KIPP Colorado email, Teams chat / meetings, Teams phone, and Microsoft Outlook calendar) ● Maintain strong attendance each day and be on time to all responsibilities ● Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement ● Reflect on professional practices to meet individual professional development goals ● Actively participate in professional development, grade level, and department meetings ● Actively engage and implement in all school-wide and Org wide professional development ● Serve as a positive, contributing member of a grade team or functional team, collaborating with colleagues to tackle common challenges and implement org and grade-wide initiatives ● Share candid, solutions-oriented feedback with peers and leadership on a regular basis, assuring that feedback is shared directly with the intended recipient. Ensure that feedback is focused on improving outcomes and experiences for students ● Assist with both student and staff recruitment and engagement- including events, home visits, calls home, and other determined and related requirements ● Know that your role, professional development, org wide meetings, etc. may require you to travel around Denver to other KIPP Campuses, our Home Office, or other KIPP or PD events ● Assist with other duties as assigned (such as but not limited to, lunch duty, arrival/dismissal duty, bathroom duty, hallway duty, school support duties, etc.) School Team Partnership ● Serve as the dedicated HR Business Partner for a defined portfolio of KIPP Colorado schools, acting as the primary point of contact for principals, school leaders, and staff members on all HR matters ● Partner with principals and school leadership on performance management needs, including documenting and addressing performance concerns, performance improvement plans (PIPs), written warnings, etc. ● Conduct and support investigations in partnership with the Senior Director of HR ● Partner with principals on workforce planning, including identifying upcoming staffing needs and collaborating on talent pipelines and hiring strategies Employee Life Cycle & Total Rewards Support ● Draft, distribute, and track offer letters for internal and external candidates within the HRBP's school portfolio ● Support employees in understanding their compensation & total rewards package ● Support candidates and employees in understanding how their compensation is determined through KIPP Colorado's compensation policies ● Complete onboarding communications and processes for all new employees and internal transfers/position changes within the portfolio, ensuring that all required steps are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with KIPP Colorado policies and relevant regulations ● Complete offboarding communications and processes for all exiting employees within the portfolio, ensuring that all required steps are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with KIPP Colorado's policies and relevant regulations ● Ensure payroll processing includes all necessary compensation and personnel information within the portfolio ● Support employees in adhering to KIPP Colorado’s time off policies, including leaves of absence and paid time off Payroll & Benefits Administration ● Manage and communicate payroll-related deadlines and processes with relevant managers and employees in the HRBP's school portfolio ● Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders within the portfolio to ensure all payroll-related changes and inputs are collected and implemented accurately and on time—including raises, bonuses, stipends, timesheet completion, benefits changes, unpaid time, and retirement updates ● Respond to payroll, benefits enrollment, and retirement inquiries from employees, managers, and external stakeholders with urgency and empathy ● Accurately implement wage garnishments and other required deductions, and send necessary notifications to affected employees in a timely manner ● Partner with KIPP Colorado's Finance team to ensure employee reimbursement requests are fulfilled in alignment with KIPP Colorado's policies ● Execute new hire benefits enrollment, annual open enrollment, and special enrollment events for portfolio staff ● Ensure employee benefits elections are reflected accurately in all systems and reports ● Draft, distribute, and track stipend and athletic offer letters within the portfolio ● Adjust compensation due to raises, bonuses, and role changes; respond to employee inquiries regarding pay clarifications or corrections Compliance & Record Keeping ● Ensure employee compliance with mandatory training, credentialing, and other role requirements for staff in the HRBP's portfolio ● Support KIPP Colorado schools in managing and reporting workplace injury concerns and worker’s compensation claims and ensure organizational compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations ● Manage all personnel records within the portfolio and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal record-keeping regulations ● Collect and record staff information accurately and efficiently at all stages of the employee life cycle. Ensure all internal and external human resources systems are updated as needed ● Fulfill internal or external data requests, such as worker's compensation income reporting and income verification, thoroughly and in a timely manner while maintaining appropriate confidentiality Employee & Leader Support ● Manage HR-related vendor relationships and escalate employee issues to appropriate vendor contacts ● Respond to inquiries from employees, supervisors, and external contacts with empathy and efficiency, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate leaders ● Ensure employees and managers are well-informed about policies, benefits, and role requirements by leveraging a variety of tools and resources Regional HR Duties & Projects ● Contribute to regional HR initiatives, cross-functional projects, and org-wide HR priorities as assigned by the Senior leaders on the Talent Team ● Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and tools that serve the broader KIPP Colorado network ● Serve as a backup resource for HR functions outside the assigned portfolio when needed to ensure continuity of service ● Participate in HR team planning, data analysis, and reporting to support network-level decision-making Role Level Specifics, Scope of Work, and Level of Responsibility ● For more about how you’ll lead at this level, please visit the KIPP Colorado Role Levels Matrix (this is an internal document, only)
