Job Description Position Summary The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration, cooling, and related utility systems that support food manufacturing operations at Real Good Foods. This role helps ensure production areas, coolers, freezers, and storage environments are maintained at required temperatures to support food safety, product quality, and efficient plant operations. The Refrigeration Technician plays a key role in minimizing downtime, supporting regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe work environment in a USDA-regulated, SQF-certified food processing facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial refrigeration systems, condensers, evaporators, compressors, pumps, valves, piping, and related equipment., • Maintain and support freezer, cooler, and temperature-controlled environments used in production and storage areas., • Perform routine preventive maintenance on refrigeration and utility systems to reduce unplanned downtime., • Respond quickly to refrigeration, HVAC, and temperature-control issues that impact food safety, production schedules, or product quality., • Monitor system pressures, temperatures, defrost cycles, and equipment performance to identify and correct issues., • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance, and parts usage., • Support plant operations by ensuring refrigeration systems are functioning properly during production runs, sanitation, and non-production hours., • Work closely with production, quality, food safety, and sanitation teams to maintain proper environmental conditions throughout the facility., • Assist with maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, USDA, SQF, GMP, and company food safety requirements., • Follow lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE, and other plant safety procedures when performing maintenance work., • Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reduce energy use, and extend equipment life., • Assist with general facility maintenance and other mechanical systems as needed., • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when specialized service or support is required., • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in industrial refrigeration, HVAC, ammonia refrigeration, or a related field preferred., • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in industrial refrigeration, food manufacturing, cold storage, or a similar production environment preferred., • Experience working in a USDA-regulated and/or SQF-certified food manufacturing environment strongly preferred., • Knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, mechanical components, electrical controls, and preventive maintenance practices., • Experience troubleshooting compressors, evaporators, condensers, motors, control systems, and related equipment., • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, P&IDs, and work orders., • Familiarity with food plant safety requirements, GMPs, and sanitation standards., • Ammonia refrigeration experience or certification is preferred, if applicable to facility operations., • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills., • Ability to work independently and prioritize urgent maintenance needs., • Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance, production, and quality teams., • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety, compliance, and food quality., • Ability to work in cold environments, around moving machinery, and in a fast-paced manufacturing setting., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb for extended periods., • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, with or without reasonable accommodation., • Ability to work in refrigerated, frozen, wet, and noisy production environments. This position works in a food processing plant environment and may be exposed to cold temperatures, moisture, cleaning chemicals, and moving mechanical equipment. The Refrigeration Technician is expected to follow all company safety policies, food safety requirements, GMPs, and sanitation procedures at all times.
