Experience with teaching swim lessons to youth is preferred. American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Pro-Rescuer and a Valid American Red Cross First Aid Certificate are required. Position Summary: This is a seasonal head swim coach position. The youth head swim coach is responsible for providing general swimming instruction; training swimmers in freestyle, back, breast, and butterfly strokes to compete in sanctioned swim meets; assisting with coordinating swim meet operations; and serving as the primary liaison for swimmers and parents. The head swim coach serves as the lead official and starter for all home meets. The head swim coach must attend all practices and swim meets, maintain appropriate records, address parental questions, and set up/replace all equipment used during practice. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Practices: The head coach is expected to attend every swim practice (approximately 40), coach their assigned group, and assist with all swimmers on the pool deck. The head coach must arrive 15 minutes before practice to help place lane lines and perform any other needed setup, and stay after practice for 15 minutes to put away equipment. The head coach should address parental questions during this time before and after, if it becomes something more in-depth, the head coach should direct the parent to the SISA representative or Aquatic Center Manager. Generally, the head coach works with the same swimmers at each practice. There will be many times when groups merge, and the coach should try to learn each swimmer's name. The coach should share any concerns with the SISA representative/Aquatic Center Manager for inclusion in the SISA meetings. The coach should allocate sufficient time to each stroke to help swimmers improve their technique and strength in the water. Swimmers illegal strokes should be identified and corrected so that the swimmer may achieve the ability to effectively compete in the championship meet. Swim meets: The head swim coach will coordinate all swim meet entries, ensuring accuracy, and coordinate with the Aquatic Center Manager in a timely manner so entries can be submitted to host meets or to the away meets representatives. The head swim coach will serve as the meet starter and lead official for all home swim meets; assist with event logistics and meet management as needed. This position will work collaboratively with the Aquatic Center Manager to align with swim team programming, department goals, and safety standards. The head coach will maintain accurate attendance records, meet results, and other required documentation as they arise. The position must attend every away meet, including championships, help swimmers get to where they need to be, watch their swimmers races, and provide reflections to swimmers as needed. Swim meet setup begins at 4:30 p.m. for home meets and at 4:30 p.m. for away meets. Coaches are expected to be at the location by 5:00 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. warm-up. The head coach will need to spend an additional 30 minutes after the last practice before a meet (likely Friday morning) to complete meet entries and enter them into the computer. After completion, the Aquatic Center Manager will do final approval and send it to the appropriate SISA representative for the team. The head swim coach must ensure compliance with all City of Jeffersonville Parks and Recreation policies, USA Swimming regulations, and aquatic facility safety procedures. In continuation, represent the City of Jeffersonville Parks and Recreation Department in a professional manner, providing excellent customer service and fostering a positive community image. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated, including record keeping of swimmers' names, swim results in the computer tracking system, and supervision of other swim coaches on staff, including disciplinary action as needed, with the Aquatic Center Manager.
