Job Description Job Description Title: School Nurse II Division: School-Wide (on-site) Location: Making Waves Academy Richmond Reports to: Assistant Principal of Student Support Status: Full-time, Exempt (Year-Round) Salary: $72,000-$82,000 & Benefits Supervises: Provides general oversight and support for the daily responsibilities of School Nurse I. Position Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Principal of Student Support, the School Nurse II provides comprehensive health management for the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of health services and health education to promote health and well-being, academic achievement, and holistic development for Making Waves Academy students and school personnel. Primary Responsibilities Health Services • Provide direct care and first aid for injuries and acute illness for all students and long-term management of students with special healthcare needs, primarily students on 504 plans that require reasonable accommodations., • Maintain communication with families, school personnel, and the community regarding health concerns for individual students and/or the community at large., • Supervise and administer medication(s) to students according to School policy and regulations., • Serve as school liaison to interpret the health and development assessment to parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned professionals., • Document student health information in the school’s electronic database systems and student cumulative folders as required., • Design and implement individual student health maintenance plans as prescribed by the student’s health care providers in compliance with MWA policy., • Assess and evaluate students' health and development status; provide case management, referrals, and follow-up for health conditions and/or medical problems., • Interpret medical and nursing findings appropriate to the student’s individualized education programs and 504 plans and make recommendations to professional personnel directly involved; submit reports to ensure compliance with school, state, and federal policies., • Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, assess the school environment, and make recommendations to prevent injury and ensure safety., • Facilitate completion of all required vision and hearing screenings for students.Health Education and Consulting, • Partner with school leaders to disseminate health updates and education materials to the MWA community (students, families, and employees)., • Train, coach, and monitor School Nurse I / LVN medical procedures., • Meet weekly with School Nurse I to communicate and share information., • Be available to School Nurse I by email, phone, and other communication methods., • Determine protocol adjustments as needed for an accommodation or unique case., • Approve Individual Health Plans drafted by School Nurse I., • Support School Nurse I with communications with parents as needed.Mission Alignment, • Demonstrate knowledge of and support Making Waves Academy’s mission, core values, standards, competencies, and code of conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook., • Participate in the school community – attending school competitions, performances, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.Other Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to exercise consistent mental alertness; standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time; lift/restrain/reposition/carry individuals to ensure safety; lift, carry, push, and pull moderate weight objects. Additional demands include, but are not limited to: • Response to emergency/life-saving situations, which could require a rapid response requiring running. Qualifications Experience Knowledge of the following: • Applicable laws, codes, policies, procedures, and school regulations governing work scope, • Current medical terminology, equipment, and techniques, • Operation of specialized health assessment instruments, • Diagnostic methods for medical conditions and diseases, • Medication effects and administration procedures, • First-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniquesSkills, • Implement applicable laws, codes, policies, procedures, and school regulations governing work scope, • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship among students, parents, school staff, and the community, • Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action, • Maintain accurate and confidential records, • Work confidentially and with discretion, • Work independently, • Operate computer, related software, and other office equipment, • Perform first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), • Ability to provide training to and monitor the clinical procedures of LVNEducation, • Bachelor’s DegreeLicenses or Certificates Needed, • Valid California Registered Nurse License, • Valid School Nurse Preliminary Credential (can be obtained upon hiring), • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints, tuberculosis, and/or other employment clearancePreferred, • Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required, • Valid California School Nurse Audiometrist Certificate, • Valid California School Nurse Services Clear Credential Equal Employment Opportunity Is Our Policy Making Waves Academy is an equal opportunity employer.
