Specifically looking for Part Time (Afternoon Shift) The Assistant Teacher at Brooklyn Free Space (BFS) is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher/Co-Teacher in the general supervision and management of a class ad leading the afterschool program for their classroom. This includes afternoon activities for students to keep them engaged. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to all members of the school community, and to work effectively in a teaching team. She or he must maintain a professional attitude, have a warm and friendly personality, and treat all children with dignity and respect. She or he must be able to meet the requirements of all licensing agencies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Work collaboratively and with the support of the teacher to: Assist in planning and implementing classroom programs in accordance with policies and philosophy of the school and requirements of licensing agencies. Assist in ensuring that the classroom curriculum includes explorations of all learning domains and supports the children in building developmentally appropriate social, emotional cognitive, and physical skills. Assist in gearing programs to the needs of individual children, as well as the whole group, with concern for their interests, abilities, talents, and individual style and pace of learning. Assume an equal share of staff joint housekeeping responsibilities. Participate actively in weekly team meetings. Participate in recommended training programs and/or conferences and workshops. The Teacher, under the direction and supervision of the Site Supervisor, will be responsible for the following duties: RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Working with children and parents to accomplish the Head Start goals. 2. Supporting the children in all areas of physical, social emotional and intelligent needs and communicate effectively with children within this content. 3. Planning and writing the classroom weekly lesson plans that concentrate on the group and individual needs of the children involved. 4. Establish the proper physical and social setting for children in accordance with their needs and development. 5. Incorporating the Teacher Aide/Assistant’s related suggestions when preparing the weekly lessons plans. 6. Guide and supervise the Teacher Aide/Assistant in their role in the program and assist them in performing their specific duties that support the teaching activities. 7. Working effectively with parents in interpreting the process and developmental growth of individual children and assist parent in understanding development on individually communicated and continuing basis. 8. Communicating constructively with parents and other staff in an effort towards constant improvement and upgrading to the program. 9. Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss needs of children. 10. Related learning experience to the Head Start Performance Standards when planning for young children. 11. Cooperating with all staff personnel in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the children. 12. Any other duties deemed necessary by the CEO/Executive Director or Senior Management and all program activities as it relates to the mission of the Agency. 13. In accordance with the Head Start Performance standards 1302.91, is willing to participate and benefit from Intensive Practice Based Coaching to enhance and strengthen Professional Development and Teaching Practices in the classroom setting. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Candidate must be vaccinated. 2. Bachelor Degree in Early Children Education with State Certification (Preferred).
