Job Description Summary Location: Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence Address: 601 Southlake Blvd, North Chesterfield, VA 23236 Schedule: Monday–Friday, afternoon/evening hours during the school year; summer hours may vary Position Type: Part-Time / Seasonal / Possible Year-Round Opportunity Reports To: Center Director / Program Lead Position Summary Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence is seeking an energetic, creative, reliable, and safety-focused Aftercare / School-Age Summer Camp Teacher to support our school-age scholars during aftercare, school breaks, and summer camp programming.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, creating fun hands-on projects, leading group activities, and helping children feel safe, engaged, and excited to learn. We are looking for a teacher who can bring energy, structure, creativity, and strong classroom management to our school-age program. The right candidate should be able to lead cool projects that children actually enjoy — including STEM activities, robotics, art, building challenges, science experiments, cooking projects, outdoor games, creative writing, entrepreneurship activities, and team-based challenges. About Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence is a licensed child day center in North Chesterfield, Virginia, serving children ages 6 weeks through 12 years old. We provide safe, structured, and nurturing care with a focus on early academics, STE(AI)M™, robotics, character development, school readiness, and whole-child growth. Our school-age and summer camp programs are designed to give children a safe place to learn, explore, build friendships, create, and grow. Duties Key Responsibilities The Aftercare / Summer Camp Teacher will: • Supervise school-age children in a safe, positive, and structured environment., • Plan and lead engaging daily activities, projects, and enrichment experiences., • Create hands-on projects that are fun, age-appropriate, and educational., • Support children with homework, reading, quiet time, and structured transitions during the school year., • Lead summer camp activities such as STEM projects, arts and crafts, robotics, sports, games, water play, themed weeks, and group challenges., • Maintain active supervision at all times, including indoors, outdoors, during transitions, and during field-trip-style activities when applicable., • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff., • Help children practice kindness, respect, responsibility, teamwork, and problem-solving., • Manage behavior using positive guidance and clear expectations., • Assist with snack/mealtime routines, clean-up, and classroom organization., • Keep activity areas clean, safe, organized, and ready for children., • Communicate child updates, concerns, incidents, or needs to the Director or Program Lead., • Follow all center policies, licensing requirements, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.Creative Project Expectations This position requires someone who can bring fresh ideas to the table. We want our school-age program to feel exciting, not like basic babysitting. Examples of projects may include: • Build-a-bridge STEM challenges, • Simple robotics or coding activities, • Slime, volcanoes, and safe science experiments, • Vision boards and leadership projects, • “Kids Shark Tank” business ideas, • Gardening or nature projects, • LEGO engineering challenges, • Art shows and design projects, • Cultural celebration projects, • Cooking or no-bake snack activities, • Music, movement, dance, or performance projects, • Team competitions and problem-solving games, • Community service projects appropriate for children Requirements Qualifications Preferred candidates should have: • Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, camp, school, tutoring, recreation, or youth program setting., • Strong classroom management skills., • Creativity and willingness to plan fun, meaningful activities., • Ability to supervise multiple children at once with confidence and calmness., • Dependability, professionalism, and strong communication skills., • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude., • Ability to follow child care safety and licensing requirements., • CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain., • Must meet all background check and child care employment requirements.
