Position Summary: The Store Project Associate is a hands-on team member responsible for executing store remodel, relocation, and special project tasks across West Marine's retail network. This entry-level position works under the direct supervision of the Store Project Manager performing physical installation, merchandising, and facility preparation work. The Crew Member focuses on safe, quality execution of assigned tasks while working effectively as part of a traveling project team. This position requires extensive travel (up to 75% annually) with typical assignments lasting 2-4 weeks at remote locations. The Crew Member must be flexible and available for overnight work, extended shifts, weekend work, and schedule changes to accommodate project needs. Success in this role requires a strong work ethic, ability to follow directions, attention to detail, and commitment to safety while working in physically demanding environments. The Store Project Associate takes direction from project leadership, works collaboratively with other crew members, and maintains professionalism when working in active West Marine retail locations. Primary Responsibilities: Key Responsibility #1: Physical Installation & Assembly: • Assemble and install retail fixtures, gondolas, shelving units, and display systems, • Follow project directions, planograms, and installation instructions accurately, • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively, • Install slatwall panels, end caps, and marine product showcases, • Mount wall fixtures, sign holders, and display hardware, • Unload and stage fixtures, materials, and equipment at project sites, • Assist with positioning heavy equipment including safes and back-office systems, • Unpack, stage, and organize merchandise shipments, • Stock shelves, fixtures, and displays according to planograms, • Organize marine hardware, fishing tackle, and small parts systems, • Build and set up kayak displays, clothing departments, and seasonal showcases, • Handle and organize heavy marine equipment (anchors, ropes, chains), • Price and label merchandise using pricing systems, • Ensure products are displayed neatly and according to brand standards, • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and West Marine safety policies at all times, • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), • Attend and participate in daily safety huddles, • Identify and report safety hazards immediately to project leadership, • Use tools and equipment properly and maintain them in safe working condition, • Follow proper lifting techniques and ask for assistance with heavy items, • Report all injuries or near-miss incidents immediately., • Clean store spaces including floors, fixtures, and display cases, • Remove packaging materials, cardboard, and shipping debris, • Break down and dispose of pallets, crates, and shipping materials, • Organize recycling and waste disposal according to project procedures, • Assist with painting or touch-up work as needed, • Maintain cleanliness of stockroom and back-of-house areas, • Conduct final detailing and cleaning after store openings, • High school diploma or GED required., • Technical/vocational training in construction, carpentry, or related trades a plus, • No prior experience required - will train motivated individuals, • Experience in retail, warehouse, construction, or physical labor preferred, • Background in fixture assembly, merchandising, or hands-on work a plus, • Military veterans encouraged to apply, • Valid driver's license preferred (beneficial for team transportation), • Ability to pass background check and drug screening, • Must be available for extended travel (up to 75% travel with assignments lasting 2-4 weeks), • Ability to frequently lift and carry 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75-100 pounds with assistance (marine anchors, fixture components, merchandise boxes, tools, equipment), • Push and pull loaded carts, pallet jacks, and merchandise dollies (up to 500 lbs), • Climb and work from ladders or scaffolding to heights of 12-20 feet, • Repetitive bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching to assemble fixtures and stock merchandise, • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods (8-12 hour shifts), • Work in varying environmental conditions including non-climate-controlled spaces, • Tolerance for occasional overnight work or extended hours to meet deadlines, • Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) is frequently required to meet project deadlines., • Holiday work may be necessary when project timelines demand it., • Flexibility to adjust schedule based on store operating hours and project needs. This position has a starting salary of $18.00/hr to $21.00/hr depending on experience.
