Job Description 3rd Shift Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY: The Supervisor is responsible for the care, safety and security of the youth and staff who are working during the shift. This is accomplished by ongoing monitoring and response to program operations, client behavior and employee performance. The Supervisor helps to set a positive tone and therapeutic environment by identifying strengths, being trauma informed, educating employees, and holding people accountable to the duties on their job descriptions. The Supervisor establishes themselves as a leader and resource and is the conduit for all communications on the shift. The Supervisor promotes a team approach with Direct Care Workers, Teacher Assistants, Nurses, Clinicians, Teachers, Leadership, and the children being served. The Supervisor reports directly to their department’s Director. Position Status: Exempt TECHNOLOGIES: Microsoft Office Suite, CareLogic by Qualifacts (EHR), OnShift (Scheduling), Relias Learning (Online Trainings), Paycom (Payroll System), iVMS (Camera System) Accountable and responsible for the following results: • Carries agency cellphone to receive staff call outs, fills open shifts and functions as the agency’s representative when calls are received from the community through the agency cellphone., • Remains highly visible and monitors, identifies and responds to:, • Youth/Staff Interaction, • Appropriate Youth Engagement, • Staff to client ratios and verification of youth whereabouts, • Staff adherence to program schedule, • Program needs, • Training needs and job performance of employees, • Physical plant: safety and cleanliness, • Reinforces safety, welfare, and care for all youth, • Reviews video surveillance of any incidents, injuries and/or EPR’s, in as close to real time as possible, and required by the end of the shift., • Educates employees in each shift about environmental hazards., • Completes cottage inspection for cleanliness and safety by reporting conditions which are or could be considered safety hazards (i.e., ESM/Shift Report, issuing work orders to the Maintenance Department)., • Supports Direct Care Workers in the management of children’s behaviors with appropriate, least restrictive measures and only uses hands on interventions when a child is at imminent risk of self -harm or harm to others., • Responds to each hands-on intervention during the shift as a serious incident and investigates as such to identify if the involved staff utilized unnecessary force., • Connects with all Supervisor(s), Nurses, and On-Site Clinicians throughout each shift to promote teamwork., • Completes and submits Significant Event and Notification Checklist reports, when appropriate, by the end of shift., • Effectively utilizes supervision., • Completes assigned documentation that meets department’s expectations for quality and timeliness. (e.g., shift reports, significant events, ESM reports, school shift reports, etc.), • Issues discipline (i.e., disciplinary actions, suspensions) in the moment., • Maintains compliance with CT DSS, DCF, and DPH Licensure Standards., • Successfully completes physical intervention training and performs physical restraints with individuals as a last resort when needed., • Maintains all required agency mandatory trainings., • Participates in staff and departmental meetings, in-service training programs, and attends meetings as required, workshops, and conferences. Effectively utilizes supervision, • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Adheres to The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Boundary Code of Ethics., • Is aware of the Policy and Procedure Manuals and can access information as needed., • Demonstrates effort to promote the agency Inclusion Policy by:, • Identifying inequities and bias, and appropriately raising concerns., • Interacting with others respectfully., • Respecting the experiences of individuals who do not share your race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other relevant quality., • Maintains care, welfare, safety, and security of the children by reporting conditions which are or could be considered safety hazards., • Responsible for the daily operations of assigned program., • Creation and maintenance of a trauma informed treatment environment for the age groups being served., • Remains informed of treatment plans and individual needs of the youth and educates staff, • Creates a schedule that provides predictability and fun. Obtains supplies and equipment necessary to implement activities., • Creates a community within the program that includes opportunities for the youth to contribute with ideas and responsibilities., • Develops therapeutic relationship with the guardians of youth served, • Responsible for safety and cleanliness., • Cares for agency property., • Educates staff about their responsibilities to keep the environment safe and clean, • Staff Development – Orients, trains, and supervises staff. Assesses the competencies of employees and individualizes supervision to help staff develop skills and succeed. Educates staff about the treatment needs of the youth served. Facilitates staff meetings and is attentive to staff morale., • Provides the Human Resources Department with documentation about employee orientation, competency assessments, orientation checklists, performance evaluations and trainings as assigned., • Reports concerns employee performance to program senior leadership., • Ensures documentation (for self and employees) is completed within required time frames and is descriptive and thorough (incident reports, Emergency Physical Restraint, attendance, allowance, group notes, etc.)., • Teamwork – Works in partnership with Clinical Therapists, Nurses, Teachers, and Leadership to promote agency’s mission., • Monitors staff adherence to policy and procedure and issues appropriate disciplinary measures, if needed. Bachelor’s Degree, preferred: Human Services, Social Work, or related field. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS Required to become Medication Administration Certified. Required to become a certified trainer/instructor in the Agency’s Crisis Intervention Model.
