Job Description Assistant Store Manager Odenton - Floating • Full Time $19.10 - $22.10 / HR Pay rate within the range is based on specific thresholds for years of experience and education. Candidates who can display fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish will receive an additional $1.50 above their base rate. Weekend availability (both Saturday and Sunday) is an essential requirement of this role to be fully staffed to meet customer demand. Reliable transportation for each scheduled shift is highly important. JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Store Manager is a key member of the store leadership team with primary responsibility for managing day‑to‑day store operations, leading staff performance, and driving sales, production, and customer service results. This position is designated as a Floating Assistant Store Manager (ASM) and will regularly travel between multiple store locations to provide leadership coverage, operational support, and continuity of management. The role customarily and regularly directs the work of team members, exercises independent judgment on significant operational matters, and has meaningful influence in hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination decisions. The Assistant Store Manager drives sales, production, customer experience, safety, and loss prevention results, and serves as acting Store Manager as delegated or in the Store Manager’s absence. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Directly supervises the work of employees, creates/approves schedules, assigns work, and adjusts labor to business trends and production goals., • Interviews candidates, makes hiring recommendations with significant influence, conducts onboarding and ongoing training, provides daily coaching and quarterly/annual performance evaluations., • Recognizes performance, issues or recommends corrective action, and escalates termination recommendations. Partners with HR and Store Manager on Employee Relations matters. Recommendations regarding discipline and termination are given particular weight in employment decisions., • Oversees day‑to‑day store operations including opening/closing oversight, keyholder responsibilities, cash controls, alarms, and facilities coordination., • Directs production workflow to meet and exceed daily/weekly donation processing, colorization, categorization, pricing, rotation, and salvage targets; removes bottlenecks by reallocating resources., • Implements floor plans, visual standards, and seasonal strategies., • Monitors compliance of established customer service standards and personally resolves escalated issues to protect brand reputation and retention., • Non‑managerial tasks (e.g., ringing, processing, stocking) may be performed as needed to maintain operations., • Drives results against monthly/annual sales, production, conversion, average transaction value, labor %, shrink, and safety metrics., • Ensures labor optimization and asset protection practices, partners with Store Manager on budget execution., • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, cash handling standards, bank deposit protocols, and regulatory requirements., • Investigates incidents/accidents, completes documentation, and implements corrective measures., • Identifies risk patterns, trains staff on Loss Prevention practices, and partners with LP., • Leads Kaizen/continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and customer experience., • Provides floating leadership coverage across multiple store locations, ensuring consistent execution of operational standards, staff supervision, and customer service expectations during vacancies, absences, or periods of increased business need., • Champions change management for new processes, technologies, and initiatives. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or equivalent required, • 2-3 years prior supervisory experience in a retail or related environment required or 1 year prior GIC Production Lead supervisory experience. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a current valid driver’s license and be fully insured according to Maryland law and have access to a personal vehicle. SCOPE OF SUPERVISION; • Directly supervises retail store staff, customarily and regularly directing the work of two or more full‑time employees or their equivalent, with ongoing responsibility for scheduling, work assignment, performance management, and compliance., • Employees under scope of supervision are in same location QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk, hear, and see. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons. While the role requires regular presence on the sales floor to oversee operations and staff, physical tasks are performed primarily for supervisory training or operational continuity purposes and are not the primary duty of the position. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: This position is a Floating Assistant Store Manager role and requires frequent travel to multiple store locations to provide management coverage and operational support. Up to 50% of working time Must have access to personal vehicle Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill’s territory (Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland).
